tummy troubles

Hey ladies,
It's a weird question but since giving birth I've had quite a bit of trouble with difficult bowel movements. I've been dealing with this for almost two months now, ugh! At first I thought it was the well-known hemorrhoids but now I'm more worried it might be a rectocele or something similar.

I went to my OB/GYN last week for my check-up. I told him I was having trouble with my bowels but he barely looked at it! He was only focused on cauterizing the tissue in my vagina.

When I need to go to the toilet, I'm biting or clenching a washcloth and I've even had to cry from the pain a few times! Standing, sitting, lying down... everything hurts just as much. It throbs and stabs intensely inside. I don't take pain medication because I don't want my little girl to get any of it through her milk. Today I noticed that when I need to go, a bulge comes out. I've had to push with my thumb inside my vagina to get the stool out. I also push a bit on my right buttock cheek to help move the stool out more easily. It's truly terrible pain, but this way it went fairly painless and there was much less bleeding than usual!

So my question is, are there other women who recognize this? I have to go back to the OB/GYN in two weeks. I was thinking about asking for a referral to a gastroenterologist, but it's not that simple with a guy like that! I'm breastfeeding so I can't just leave her with someone else.

Oh Caroline, I'm reading this and wondering why you're not going to your GP?! This is not normal anymore, and if I were you, I wouldn't wait another two weeks for the gynecologist. Those will be such long, miserable weeks!
Go see your GP and tell them what you've told us here. Maybe they can do something about it with a bit more urgency.
    Good luck!

You should definitely go to the GP right away because it does seem like a prolapse. Don’t walk around for too long though, as it might just become more painful and traumatic for you!
Feel better soon and keep us updated?

I have to go to the gynecologist on March 12, so in 6 days, for a check-up on the tissue that was cauterized. I was thinking of asking for a referral to a bowel specialist then. My boyfriend thinks I should go to the GP today, but I feel that's unnecessary since I'm seeing the gyn anyway in 6 days. I'm quite indecisive when it comes to doctors, which is sometimes a bad trait of mine. Oh well... I'll definitely let you know what the doctor says!

I always tend to walk on with complaints for too long, then I think...it'll get better, it's not that bad, there are surely people who have it worse. But it has turned out several times that I should have gone to the doctor anyway (after my husband dragged me there ). I would definitely call now; you're better off going too often than too little when it comes to your health. And if you already say that your gynecologist paid little attention to your problem last time, he/she might not look at it this time either, and then you're a few days/weeks further behind. And the harder your stool becomes, the more discomfort you'll have and you can feel really awful about it...
    Good luck

I agree with Iza and your friend. Just call your GP and ask the nurse what you should do. If she says to come in, then do that, and maybe she'll say it's not necessary and you can just wait for the OB-GYN. But honestly, I think the nurse also wants you to come in.

    Hi Caroline,
That’s really unpleasant!! After the birth of my first, I had the same issue. I went to the doctor and got something like Dulcolac (friendly stuff), and after 3 days it was over. Maybe call your doctor for advice? Have you tried dried plums? Strength and get well soon!!

No, I haven't tried anything yet regarding diet or medication. I've been to the OB-GYN and he prescribed pelvic floor exercises. So far, not much improvement, but that takes time, right?

For now, going to the toilet is still a bit painful but bearable. Luckily, I don't have much trouble during the day. When I'm in a car or on a hard chair, I often start shifting and adjusting. Or I put my hand under my bottom so I can sit at an angle...
