How Mummable's articles are researched, written, fact-checked and corrected, and where our information comes from.

This page explains how Mummable's articles are made, where their information comes from, and how to tell us if something is wrong.

How an article is made

Every article goes through the same steps:

  1. Research. We look at what parents are actually asking, what official health bodies say, and what the best existing pages cover or miss.
  2. A first draft that answers the question in full, using only facts from that research.
  3. An editing pass that rewrites the draft so it reads clearly and warmly, without changing the facts.
  4. A fact check in which every claim (numbers, ages, thresholds, medicines, safety advice) is checked against its source. Claims that can't be supported are removed.
  5. A final line-by-line read for clarity and tone.

We use AI tools to help with research, drafting and editing. Every article goes through the fact check and the line-by-line read above, against the sources it lists, before it is published. Our team reads published articles and corrects or updates them when needed.

Where our information comes from

  • Health and safety: official bodies and peer-reviewed research only. We start with US sources such as the American Academy of Pediatrics, the CDC and ACOG, and also check the NHS (UK), the Canadian Paediatric Society, Australian and New Zealand health services, Ireland's HSE and the World Health Organization.
  • When countries differ, we say so in plain words instead of picking one.
  • Parent experiences are included only when the same experience comes up again and again across many parents. We never invent quotes, names or statistics.

Every article lists its sources at the end.

What our articles are not

Our articles are general information for parents. They are not medical advice and can't replace someone who knows you and your child. Health articles include a "When to get help" section with the signs that mean you should contact a doctor or emergency services.

Keeping articles up to date

Each article shows when it was last updated. When official guidance changes, we update the article.

The forum

Forum posts are written by members and reflect their own experiences and views, not Mummable's advice. Many discussions were first posted on our Dutch sister site, Brabbels, and translated into English. Our team reads translated discussions and corrects translation errors when we find them.
