Hi Bolletje,
We're also getting our nuchal translucency scan and blood test results on Tuesday.
Sounds fun, buying all those little things!
We're still waiting a bit though, we can't take anything into the house yet because of the renovation. -

Hi ladies,
My due date is January 6, 2013!
Does anyone have the exact same due date?
Would be nice to follow each other a bit during this beautiful process!
Greetings, Margy -

Hey Bolletje,
Good luck tomorrow! Are you nervous? I can't really imagine that the scan and my blood test won't go well.
It's so weird because I was really worried for a while there.
Will you let us know?
My afternoon is also very busy, I'll see if I have time tonight to hopefully share the good news here.
Hi Margy,
Welcome and congratulations!
My due date is January 22nd, so that's 2 weeks different from you. -

Got the results yesterday and unfortunately they weren't good.....1 in 54 chance of Down syndrome....
I was really startled, the ultrasound looked so beautiful! Baby was on its head, busy doing its thing, amazing to see though.
We got a call from the genetic counseling center today, just letting things sink in for now, what to do next?
For now, I've told everyone everything is fine, don't want people around me worrying too. -

Dear Dani,
Let things settle down. You have each other, and the ultrasound looks good otherwise. Now just wait and see what the VK says; there's not much more you can do anyway...
I'm thinking of you and your "Otje" and wishing you lots of wisdom no matter what decision you make.
Love, Ju

Oh, that's so tough for you, Dani!!
The uncertainty... Give yourself plenty of time to really think about how much this little one means to you both!
My school friend's mom was told by 3 different doctors that the baby had Down syndrome and that she should consider abortion.
She faced a lot of pushback from her surroundings and doctors when she refused, but the baby was born completely healthy!!
They offered me two tests too, but I declined.
For me personally, there's no difference whether it would or wouldn't be like that. And that saves me from the uncertainty beforehand.
If I were to take in a little dog that's missing a leg,
I can't imagine not accepting my child because it's not as perfect as we hoped.
The gynecologist gave me weird looks and asked if I was really sure.
But I stand by it (and to my relief, my husband does too) completely.
I wish you lots of strength and wisdom.
Make sure you're both 100% behind your decision!

I just got a call from the midwife, and she basically said they’d already told us about this yesterday.
We don’t want an amniocentesis or CVS because our baby is welcome no matter what.
The other anomalies showed no risk—everything was fine according to the results, and that’s what we were initially worried about.
During the 20-week scan, though, they noticed extra heart anomalies, more than usual, she said.
Getting this kind of result really hits you hard, of course.
I’ve been reading up on it just in case, but it could all turn out fine too.
My partner and I are on the same page, and we’re just going to wait and see. I’m proud of my belly! Still trying to enjoy it—this is my last pregnancy, and yesterday during the scan, the little one was so active and playful!
I barely dared to breathe when he/she was calm and the sonographer could get a good picture, afraid he/she’d start moving again and ruin the shot, hihi.
I’ve got the photos right next to me and can’t stop looking at them..... -

Hi Dani, how old are you if I may ask? That has quite an influence on the reliability of the test. I hope everything is okay for you!
That's super of you that you want to keep it anyway. -
Dani #91
Hi Anke,
I'm 40 years old.
Being three days further along in pregnancy makes quite a bit of difference, by the way, according to the test.
It turns out I'm actually 3 days further along.
The first result was 1 in 146 and after recalculating it's 1 in 54.
I'm feeling stronger in one way or another.
I'm going out now to buy something nice for the baby. That'll be the first thing because I wanted to wait until we were 3 months along, and since I'm now 12+4, I think it's a nice moment! -

That's so great of you!! I always feel so incredibly relieved when I hear that!!
Yeah, I'd also gather some info, but not too much to avoid overthinking!!
Try to keep enjoying it (maybe it's not even that bad)
Maybe it's better for you two if not too many people know about it
(But do have someone you trust to vent to) otherwise it'll just be all about that and not about the joy of your baby!
Nice to hear, really!!
Why is this your last pregnancy?? -
Dani #93
I have a daughter who’s almost 16. We tried for years to get pregnant again, was declared infertile, had a lot of sadness, of course.
Divorced from her dad, met my boyfriend and after 2 months I’m pregnant with him.
So unplanned, was quite a shock at first, but now he’s become our little miracle!
That’s why this is the last time.
Just bought a really cute little outfit! Put it on the table with a sweet card for the dad.
I’m enjoying my upbeat mood now; his positivity has luckily rubbed off on me! -

Hi Dani,
Maybe it's a good sign, girl. I find you both super strong, sending you a big kiss from me, and strength and lots of power..
That positivity just shines through the screen, your words have so much strength..
Dad can't help but find the package very nice, sweet and cute..
Stay tough, but you're doing that anyway..
Love, Ju

Dani, I can't say more than that I think you're a strong woman. What a lovely gesture to buy something for your little miracle... that's indeed a positive gesture. And the feeling and love you both have for the baby gives you strength. Big hug from me. -

hi dani,
i wish you lots of strength no matter what decision you make.
i'm 38 years old and 14 weeks pregnant. but i'm still going to have the amniocentesis done.
because i'm pregnant with my fourth child and with the third one, the blood test wasn't good. it was 1 in 100 chance. so i also had the amniocentesis done on my doctor's advice.
i wish you lots of strength, trust someone you can talk to.
greetings tammi -

Hi girls,
Thank you so much for your kind words, I'm almost blushing hihi.
It's so weird but we were already so happy with our little one of course.
And this rash could just as well mean that everything is okay, but also that it's not. It's our little one, after everything that has happened and how it went, it's destined that we become the parents.
Ju: dad thought the outfit was very cute but I had to go return it....it didn't fit!! Mafferd! -
Dani #98
Hi Tammi,
I assume the results for your little one weren't so good either, if it was like that with the 3rd one?
Good luck and stay strong with the puncture! Still really nerve-wracking, right? -
tammi #99
Hi Dani,
I don't know the results yet because I have to go to the doctor today, but I live in Belgium.
Here they say that you should have the amniocentesis done at 16 weeks if you're of a certain age, and since it was a doubtful case with the previous one, I'm willing to go through with it. The doctor also says the blood test could come out differently, so for you, I wouldn't think the worst yet, girl.
Take care, okay? STRENGTH
Greetings, Tammi -

Hey Dani, wow that’s quite a shock, I can imagine.
I’ve been away for a while due to circumstances, so I just caught up on the thread.
First of all, I think you’re amazing, the way you and your partner are handling this.
It’s always tough dealing with things like this, and it can make me incredibly angry when people say things like “well, I’d terminate the pregnancy.” People who think that way have no empathy, let alone sense.
It boils down to the fact that those who think like this believe a child with Down syndrome or another disability doesn’t have the right to live.
I can only tell you to follow your heart, dear, and make sure you and your partner are on the same page.
And I’m sure you’ll get through this together.
Don’t let yourself be swayed by all those scary stories.
I have to go to the midwife tomorrow for the 30-week scan and nuchal translucency measurement.
Stay strong, girl, and keep those beautiful images of your little miracle in your mind.
Love, big kiss, Renate74
