Frustrating

Hi everyone,

After reading quietly for a long time, I’d like to introduce myself (still anonymously) and start writing. Anonymously, because everyone can read along, and my partner and I would prefer to keep it quiet that we’re trying for our first baby.

My story:
I’m RH, in my early 20s, and have been together with my partner for almost 12 years. I stopped trying about a year ago, thinking “we’ll see,” and because of the pill, my sex drive was at zero. Anyway, we went into this “journey” quite casually. In the first few months after stopping the pill, my cycle was quite irregular. Sometimes I got my period, other times not. I didn’t really track it closely. After a while, I did get a period every “month,” with a cycle of 4-5 weeks. Not regular, but at least it was back. However, since my last period, I haven’t gotten my period again. That was from Feb 26 to the weekend of March 3. I’ve taken tests regularly, and they’ve all been negative. Combined with the fact that we’ve been having unprotected sex regularly for a year, and now with my missed period, I’m starting to get worried. Meanwhile, that “casual” mindset has faded. I did an ovulation test for the first time today, and it shows a faint line.. Does this mean something is going on in my body?

Conclusion:
Right now, my fallopian tubes are buzzing quite a bit, and we’re both really ready for this new chapter in our lives. We hope to soon feel a little miracle growing in my belly. And I’m getting quite frustrated and insecure about the fact that it still hasn’t happened, and about the missed period.
That’s what I wanted to share.

P.S. I just wanted to say that I think this forum is a wonderful initiative for women (or men) at any stage to be able to write about themselves!!

Best,

RH

That's so frustrating that it's not working out yet. And if your cycle is also all over the place, I can imagine how incredibly frustrating that must be. I think if I were in your situation, now after a year and with a cycle that isn't behaving as expected, I'd consider some additional testing. Maybe there's a medical reason why it hasn't happened yet, and after a year, it's not unreasonable to have it checked out.

Regarding the ovulation test: one test with such a faint line doesn't tell you much. You could try testing every day at the same time for a while, to see the pattern. I always noticed a clearly darkening line around my ovulation, after which it faded again. That gives you some insight, whereas one single test with a faint line on any random day in your cycle might not mean much. They say the line should be darker than the control line, but that was never really the case for me. It does become clearly darker and then lighter again.

    Hi Puck,

First of all, congratulations on your pregnancy!

I spoke with the doctor's assistant last Thursday and wanted to come in on Monday. So I was told to call again early tomorrow, and hopefully, I'll get to see the midwife (HA). I'm just so scared after reading the stories on this forum that they'll tell me to try again with ovulation tests first. But given my irregular cycle—or rather, no cycle at all—it feels almost impossible for me to do that. And adding that stress on top of the normal stress of trying to conceive with a regular cycle doesn't seem right either...

You're right about the ovulation tests, but isn't it true that if there's a line, it means an LH peak was detected, whether it's already fading or still rising? I'll start checking every day from now on, hoping it's still on the rise.

Anyway, thanks for thinking with me!

I had light lines all month, and I think that’s pretty common, so I don’t think you should draw any conclusions from this test.
