Looking for people in the same situation

Hi everyone,

My name is Amber and I'm pregnant with my first baby.
I'm currently 8 weeks pregnant. My partner is going to Iraq in a few weeks. (He's a sailor)
So he'll be absent for most of the pregnancy and won't be back until the last month, assuming I don't give birth earlier.

My biggest fear is that he won't form the same bond with our child as I will, and that I might get irritated with him because I'm essentially alone during the most important and difficult times, having to do everything myself.

Are there any ladies here who can give me advice or are in the same boat?

    Hi ambibambii

First of all, congratulations on your pregnancy!!

I'm not in the same boat, but I've seen it happen with a friend and her partner. She filmed everything, took photos of the ultrasounds, the kicks in her belly, the nursery, etc. He loved it!!

I don't see any other bond, or rather, maybe a deeper one. He watched the videos and photos very deliberately. And maybe he experienced it more intensely than someone who was there every day.

My friend found it terrible beforehand, but afterwards they became very close.

So what I really want to say to you, record as much as possible so he can live and grow into the moment with you.

If you can't send photos and videos, it's nice to have a photo/video night when you're back, where he can see everything.

I wish you a pleasant pregnancy and lots of strength to get through the coming period together.

    Love, Koekoek
