Help, my son can't entertain himself.

As the title says, my 6-month-old son can't entertain himself well. When he's awake, he wants to be entertained. Playing by himself in the playpen or on a mat is only fun for max 5 minutes, then he starts whining and soon screaming.
He can roll onto his tummy but can't roll back, which makes him cry easily.
Any tips on how to handle this?

I'd try giving something that makes a sound or a cuddly toy. I bought that for my little boy and he loves it. The box mobile too, he reaches out for it. Anyway, things in bright colors are interesting for kids that age. My little one is now 4.5 months old.

Thank you all! I've bought some new toys, he now also has a fever and I think teeth are coming in, maybe that has something to do with it too!

Haha, same here. Yesterday it was fluctuating between 38.8 and 39.8, and now it's between 37.5 and 37.7. I got some teething gel and put the biting ring in the fridge.

Hi, my son just turned 4 months old. At first, he didn’t like the crib either, but luckily he does now. He can lie in it for about 25 minutes. I have a rattle and an octopus plush toy that he’s crazy about. And he loves the crib mobile. He can have fun with it for a long time. Maybe you could get one for your baby too? I used to chat with him when he was in the crib at first. Now he doesn’t need that anymore and entertains himself, so mom can do the dishes or have a cup of coffee! It’s lovely.

Just give him normal materials: a plastic serving spoon or cup, small cups, a brush, wipes, or an open ball that he can hold well. This challenges him to do something on his own.
Materials with light and music have no added value for those little kids. Unless they themselves see where the sound comes from, for example, balls rolling somewhere and they see this.
