Quick question for Joyce, so you already know what it is? I thought they only find out at the 20-week ultrasound? -

Same here... my boyfriend is much more down-to-earth about this than I am. He says just try to enjoy it because if something goes wrong, there's still plenty of time to be sad! And he's kind of right about that. So things are getting better already. But with every little pain, you think, oh no, is it really not okay? I didn't expect that insecurity from myself! I'm usually pretty sure of myself. What an impact having a little one in your belly has, huh!
Oh, you're already 19 weeks along.. exciting! Do you still have pregnancy discomforts? And can you already see a nice little belly? -

So relatable, that insecurity. It's always exciting again. I'm a bit less insecure now with the second one than with the first. Just enjoy it, that's better for your baby than all that stress. X -

Hahaha yes, my husband is also super chill. He's way less into it than I am, hahaha.
When I have stomach pain, I think: is this normal? And how long should those twinges last?
Went to the GP yesterday and luckily he understands that the nerves only calm down after the first ultrasound
Besides that, I have an intake appointment with the midwife and the gynecologist, so we'll see how it goes... -

For men, it's also easier to stay grounded. It's not their body where everything is happening. You feel all sorts of things going on in your body, so much is changing. And because it's all new, that can be a bit scary. And a little healthy tension isn't so bad either. X -

That's true too. I find it so special that there's a baby growing in my belly while you can't really feel anything yet.. and you only know because of a test. It's nice when it's confirmed. By the way, I'm going to participate in Mothers for Mothers. I have an appointment about it tomorrow. Are any of you also participating?

Hi everyone, my due date is October 27th, same as Marike's.
I'm glad I don't feel alone when I hear you all.
First pregnancy and feeling unsure too, no symptoms...
First ultrasound is on March 20th, feels way too long! -

Bummer that the first appointment takes so long... But yeah, there's no other way, and still try to enjoy your pregnancy
It'll all work out! So you're feeling okay otherwise?? -
Roeksanah #49
Yeah, I'm doing okay otherwise, just a bit tired but that's normal for me! How are you all feeling around these weeks? It's really way too long waiting for that ultrasound

I actually feel pretty good too. I do have some back pain and get tired faster too! Also, I’ve got a bit of period-like stomach pain, but that’s apparently normal (a sign that your uterus is growing?). It’s nice, isn’t it... that we’re all expecting our little ones around the same time! -
Roeksanah #51
Yeah, I really think this is an amazing invention. I do get some cramps too, but it’s just a shame that I keep worrying.
Women...
Hope we can keep chatting with each other, it feels a bit better knowing there are others who feel the same way! -
D&M #52
Totally agree! We'll help each other through this long period of waiting and discomfort

Yeah, I also find it nice to be in touch with others who are in the same boat. I found out today that I've been pregnant for 2 weeks, and I have to say it's getting better little by little... I also feel like, well, I can't do more than live as healthily as possible. If something goes wrong, then it just has to be that way. Of course, I don't hope for that. I think it's such a beautiful idea to become a mom!
I get all these little flutters in my tummy when I think about holding our little wonder in 9 months! -

Hi Roekhsana, how nice that you're due on the same day, although this still needs to be confirmed
I'm also tired all the time and have bouts of nausea, but it's manageable. I just don't have much of an appetite. I do eat, and as healthily as possible (apart from here and there having a snack haha)..
I have my first ultrasound on the 21st... -

Hi Marike,
Lovely indeed!
Keep me posted! -

That's right, indeed, we're having a daughter
At the 20-week scan, they do look for it here, but I've heard that they only tell you if they can see it clearly, but they don't make any extra effort to find it. Maybe it varies by midwife. I don't have any experience with this yet. My 20-week scan is on March 21.
But I was so curious that I had a pre-scan done on February 14 at 15 weeks and 5 days for gender determination. If you don't want to do this or think it's too expensive, you unfortunately have to wait until the 20-week scan.
Some pre-scan offices already do gender determination from 13 weeks. But there's a higher chance they won't be able to see it properly then, so I waited until 16 weeks.
And yes, men can be terrible about this. Probably because they don't feel what we all feel. There's something in your belly.. there's a baby in your belly. Just the idea is bizarre, and with everything you feel, you think oh dear.. but too much stress isn't good for the little one either.. hang in there, ladies. -

Weeks 9/10 and 11 were really rough with nausea and vomiting. It happened right during Christmas and New Year's. Perfect timing. I was about to throw up in the middle of the street at the Christmas market in Leiden. I was so embarrassed. Then it suddenly stopped... which naturally made me worried, but they said it was completely normal.
Also had some nausea and vomiting for a few days in week 16, but I guess I can't complain too much. Sometimes I get little twinges or pains, but they say that's normal.
And now, indeed, there's a nice little belly showing. I've gained 1.8 kg so far, which isn't too bad, but it's becoming more noticeable through my clothes. I'm also wearing maternity pants because they're really comfortable. -
Marike #58
Nice clear explanation, Joyce! Thanks. It's nice that you're already a bit further along... then we can get a little idea of what's in store for us, haha.
Vomiting at the Christmas market is indeed not exactly elegant, hahaha!
If you're also constantly dealing with this at work, it must be pretty tough to only tell people you're pregnant at 12 weeks, right?
I notice my head is really like a sieve. Normally my memory is fine, but now I find myself having to write down every little thing on a to-do list because otherwise I forget it. I also really feel like there's a lightness in my head, pfff.
On top of that, I notice I'm a bit more short-tempered (oops)... little things irritate me faster.
Otherwise, luckily still no severe nausea. But I hear more and more often that this usually starts after week 6... so who knows what else is in store. -

I've been having waves of nausea since yesterday. Today it's a bit worse. When I eat, it goes away again. I'm not hungry at all, so I eat just to feel better. And yes... that means I'm eating at least 6 times a day
I mostly crave sweets, but I want to watch my diet a bit because I don't want the kilos to pile on. I just lost 4.5 kilos with acupuncture, and it would be a shame if they were back on immediately.
And I'm really counting down the days until the first ultrasound! Luckily, my days at work fly by

So relatable. I also have absolutely no appetite. Eating feels like such a chore for me. I'm trying to get through the day by eating a little bit here and there. I've also been craving sweets more. Before, I was crazy about chips and cup-a-soup. Now, just the thought makes me nauseous. I'm also feeling really tired and drained. For the past few days, I've had some itchy vagina. Really annoying. But no weird discharge.
