Lots of stimuli/sleep

Hi mamas,

Just a quick question.
My little boy is 7 weeks old now. In the beginning he had a lot of sleep problems, he was sometimes awake for almost the whole day, which I found quite strange..
Then a district nurse came by and now he's being swaddled.
This helps. And for the past 2 weeks he's been sleeping in his own little room now, and that's going really well.

He gets his last bottle at 23:00/23:30
sleeps through until 6:00
And in the afternoon I put him back in his room on his bed for an afternoon nap from 3:00 until around 17:30/18:00
then he gets another bottle and plays downstairs for a bit and goes back to bed around 19:30/20:00 until 23:00.

Only now is my question.. I think he really can't handle too many stimuli.. he's very sensitive
when we have him downstairs in the pram he can never sleep well or he doesn't want to be in the pram, I don't know...
Only in his own room is he calm, but I can't just leave him in his room all day forever..
What can I do about this?
And I sometimes still find it a bit scary to have him alone in his room, I check almost every half hour, it's still getting used to.. but it's better for him.
I'm always afraid he might suffocate or something, yeah pff these fears I have....

He’s already got a nice schedule for a 7-week-old, awesome!! It’s also great that you’ve realized that stimuli are probably too much for him!

I totally get what you mean when you say it feels scary; I felt that way too at the beginning.

Does he like being in the crib? If he’s struggling there too, you could maybe make a ‘canopy’ over the crib to block out some stimuli. No experience with that though, it just popped into my head.

And with a baby carrier you can also reduce stimuli while keeping him close to you. I have experience with that; wearing is really lovely!

    Good luck!

Don't be so insecure, you're doing great!
As long as he drinks enough, sleeps, and gets cuddles & kisses, it'll be fine soon enough. And yeah, he's up a lot, but they just need a lot of sleep, super not cozy but still very nice that he sleeps in his own bed! And as long as he's down with you when he's awake, I'd keep it like that. Those naps will naturally become less frequent, then he'll be down more often.

And indeed, he probably won't find the stroller so comfortable. I think he'd rather dislike the stroller basket than his bed

    Yes, that's right! Hihi
Well, this is going well, so keep it up as long as she's so happy..

Tonight we tried a phase 2 teat because she sometimes took a really long time to finish a bottle, up to an hour with the DR Brown bottle.. It did help with the colic she had so badly at the beginning.. But I think I won't use that teat again for now.
She finished the bottle in under 10 minutes and then had a little bit of colic again, and was very restless tonight, so we went back to the other bottle for a longer time. As long as she doesn't have any issues with it, that's better.. That teat was also for from 3 months, but I thought I'd give it a try.. Well, for now I'll stick with this teat for the time being..
