Pregnant longer than expected

Hi everyone,

Just had my first ultrasound and I’m not feeling completely okay about it.

I don’t have a steady partner and got pregnant after a fun evening with a really good friend. The sex was about 7 weeks ago, but according to the first ultrasound, I’m now 8 weeks and 4 days pregnant. According to the dating scan, the baby was about 2 cm. In two weeks I’ll have my second ultrasound, then they can do a better dating scan and say more exactly how many weeks it is. The midwife already said that there’s rarely a week difference, just a few days.

If we have to go by the midwife’s info, my best friend can’t be the father, and I’m quite stressed about that.

The last time I had sex before that was on August 3 with a one-night stand. I got my period on August 11, but if I calculate from that, I don’t come up with 8 weeks and 4 days (based on my menstruation and ovulation).

I read a lot of stories about people being shorter pregnant than thought, but I’m actually longer pregnant than expected.

My heart was beating well and everything was fine so far, but I’m getting a really bad feeling now that the weeks don’t match up.
Anyone experienced this?

Due to the measurement, the due date actually comes out to 8 weeks and 4 days. She quickly explained that she estimates it based on the size. But it doesn't match up at all with ovulation and possible implantation...

And your last period was almost 9 weeks ago, right? So the weeks should match up, shouldn't they? My first ultrasound was at 8 weeks and 3 days, and the baby measured 1.92 cm then. But I was sure that ovulation hadn't been that long ago, based on ovulation tests. It was about 6.5 weeks prior.

I think it does fit with your story. Do a calculation online and see what comes up. Otherwise, a paternity test will eventually have to determine who the father is. There's not much you can do about it now anyway.

    But isn't that actually correct?
The sex was 7 weeks ago, so also your ovulation around that time.
You always get 2 weeks 'bonus', the 2 weeks before your ovulation. 7 weeks + 2 weeks is 9 weeks, which roughly matches the 8+4 weeks from your ultrasound.

Or am I seeing this wrong?

No, the internet says exactly 8 weeks and 4 weeks pregnant with a period on 11-8. It can't be more precise than that..

Hahaha yeah, technically a woman isn't pregnant for 40 weeks but 38; those extra 2 weeks are a bonus—they're the weeks from the first day of your period until ovulation

    Anyway, congratulations!

Many women don't know when their ovulation is. But many women do know when the first day of their last period was.

That's why it was decided to count the number of weeks a woman is pregnant from the first day of her last period.

So if you ovulated and got fertilized, you're already 2 weeks pregnant according to the midwife. (Those two weeks is an average. If there's more time between your last period and ovulation, then it's longer.)

I see this is an older topic, and I hope you've found some peace by now and can enjoy your pregnancy.

    Hi there,

I'm a bit confused. I'm now 16-17 weeks pregnant, but I have a small question.
April 17, 2016, was the first day of my last period. According to most calculations, my most fertile day was May 6, 2016. (And I had sex with my boyfriend more than once around that time.) My first dating scan was on June 28, 2016, and according to that scan, the baby was already 9 weeks and 5 days. But I expected it to be only 8 weeks. So if I count back from June 28 by 9 weeks and 5 days, conception would have been around April 19.
But that was when my period had already started.
Now, on April 17, the day my period started, I still had sex with my boyfriend.
Could I have conceived around that time, or can an ultrasound be that far off?

    Best regards

Hi, if you read all the messages above, it should make a lot of things clear. Pregnancy is counted from the first day of your last period. Enjoy it
