Christmas

Linda, I personally had that fear too, but I was afraid of making a fuss. My husband didn't dare either; he was way too scared that I'd give birth there. He was even more anxious than I was, so sweet.

We were actually invited to Belgium, where his sister-in-law lives, but we ended up not going. He explained, and luckily she understood. We'd have had to travel all the way from Amsterdam to get there, which is quite far.

And my girl ended up coming early anyway, so it was good we didn't go. Both my princesses were born a bit early, not by much, just 2 weeks.

I'd say you should see your friend to talk it over, and maybe just skip it this one time. This is only once in your life that you'll still be able to spend Christmas together with him. Soon there'll be a baby. Enjoy this time consciously together, without any hassle, noise, or people around you.

Well meant, however. This special period won't come back; try to really enjoy it consciously, just you two, completely alone, while you still can

Best, Madelene

    Hi!

    Congratulations on your pregnancy!

Last year, I was also around 37 weeks pregnant during Christmas. Early on in my pregnancy, we decided that we wouldn't be visiting for Christmas. I really didn't feel like it. One day at my parents', the next at my in-laws'. Long days, lots of sitting, and 1.5-hour car rides each way for both sides.

I was so glad I had said no right from the start. My pregnancy was quite tough. If you don't feel like it, don't go just for others' sake. Enjoy Christmas at home with your partner. Enjoy some quality time just the two of you before the baby arrives. Finish up the last little tasks around the house. Please don't feel guilty about it. Next year, you'll be there as usual, but then with your little one!

If you're feeling better by then and want to go, you can always change your mind, right?

Maybe if you turn it around with your partner?

So make sure to mention that you'd rather be at home because of your pregnancy and that you'd really like to spend those lovely romantic Christmas days just the two of you before the little one joins your family.

His family will see him around that time anyway, right? I assume they'll want to visit during the postpartum period to admire the little one?

I wouldn't go either. I'm 26 weeks pregnant now, and I'm not even sure if I'd be happy about it. ????

Yes, definitely, we see them all very regularly. For New Year's Eve we booked a luxury hotel stay nearby, but with a view of the national fireworks display. So we can do something special together, but still be close to home.

I'll quickly get back to it then, and talk about Christmas again. It's a bit sensitive right now. But I'm glad you all think the same! My best friend dismissed it a bit by blaming hormones, and you can see that, but I just feel very strongly that I don't want to. Everyone is welcome at our place, but I'm not going to travel 3 hours there and 3 hours back, and stay for 3 nights with 37 weeks pregnant. Now I'm completely sure.

    Thanks!
