When do we start??

I was 22 when my first daughter was born and my boyfriend was 33. We were still living with my parents, which made things easier, I have to say. My mom would also go out regularly in the evenings to let me rest, and she did a lot with my daughter. For example, if I wanted to shower, she’d watch her, or if my boyfriend and I wanted to have a quiet breakfast, we’d take our time while my mom kept my daughter busy. It was ideal that she’d take her out in the mornings for breakfast while I slept in. Three weeks before her first birthday, I got pregnant with my second daughter. I then went looking for a house of my own. I have to be honest, it was a bit heavier, but you get used to it, and you feel happy and complete with your little family. We really wanted a child before I turned 30, and that worked out. I was 22. I’d like to say to you that the most important thing is whether you’re mentally ready. Forget about saving and finances for a moment—it might sound crazy, but the most important thing is: have you enjoyed your freedom enough? Have you enjoyed being together enough? Do you still like going out and having fun together, or can you fully focus on a little one and have enough time for it? You have to prepare yourself for the fact that the first few years will be completely centered around your child. If you can handle that, I’d say just go for it. It’s the most beautiful thing there is. Something of yourselves together—it makes you so happy and complete. No other feeling of happiness can compare. You also have to keep in mind that it might not happen right away. For that reason, I’d start earlier. Good luck with your decision.

I just wanted to add that at 22 I wasn't mentally ready yet, so it was nice to have my mom there. I wanted too much freedom back then, but I am and still am super happy with her. With my second, I was already used to it and had no need for freedom anymore. I wanted a calmer life. They are the most beautiful thing that has ever happened to me. Love, Felicia

Thank you so much for your reply! We've been trying for a baby for quite a while now. But we were really hesitating at first. Indeed, we used to eat out a lot and go to the sauna. We haven't been on vacation together much either. Once a weekend in Luxembourg and last September 9 days in Spain. We really enjoyed all those things! But now I've reached a point in my life where I feel like I'm going to miss out. A little family, indeed, a little one of your own that you have to take care of. We haven't been out much for years, don't care that much about it anymore. And I do think that a little one can't really handle all those vacations and weekend getaways! I don't want to wait too much longer either. I'm approaching thirty, so it's about time. Besides, my own mother is already getting on in years (67) and she was seriously ill last year. Luckily, she has fully recovered, but I would really, really love for her to experience it consciously. I don't have any siblings and am very close to my mother. My boyfriend and I have decided to take folic acid for a month now. And then stop the pill ...

when you should start is something only you two can decide..
I think you have a really good foundation to start a family..
it's true that generally the older you get, the harder it is to get pregnant, but that's not always the case..
what is true is that the older you get, the more likely you are to face complications during pregnancy or with the baby (like abnormalities).

I was 22 when I (unexpectedly) found out I was pregnant.. I had only been married for a month, but we had been together for 8 years.
We went all in, 100%, our savings were wiped out by the wedding, so for us there was no savings left. It was tough sometimes, but we got so much out of it too.. Now my son is 2.5 years old, and we are both so happy, fulfilled, and proud of our son. In 6 weeks, we're even expecting him to become a big brother.

We're all in now, it's really exciting but I'll just let it come to me! Glad everything went well for you guys, and good luck with the second pregnancy!
