I have a BMI of 42.1. Well, I knew I was overweight; I’ve always been this way.
Now that I’m pregnant, it really stands out, which is logical. Unfortunately, the ideal scenario of a small-scale midwife practice and home birth is off the table.

Yeah, I get that you would’ve preferred to give birth at home, but the most important thing is that you’re pregnant! You’ll probably be monitored extra closely because of the sugar levels and for the baby’s sake. How many weeks pregnant are you now? They want to keep a close eye on you because you have a higher chance of gestational diabetes and having a large baby. Just enjoy it for now! And don’t stress too much about it! It’s better they monitor you extra closely than not!

    Hi there,

I’m just over 17 weeks pregnant now and I also have a high BMI. Before I got pregnant, I lost 40 kg thanks to my gastric band, which by the way stays in place during pregnancy.

Right now I weigh 103 kg, so I’m still quite heavy, but I haven’t had any issues so far. I’m curious to see how the 20-week scan goes, but I expect the last few weeks/months won’t be a walk in the park for me either.

I’m taking it very calmly. I’d rather have them monitor me extra closely in the hospital than let things drag on. One advantage is that I already planned to give birth in the hospital. Hopefully, you can come to terms with it a bit, even if you had hoped for things to go differently.

    Good luck!
