Scared of the birth

After I was admitted to the hospital, the fear of giving birth has become really big. I was admitted on Friday morning around 4 o'clock because of bleeding. (I usually have some spotting but it was the first time it was so heavy) In the delivery room, they did a CTG of the baby and then an internal examination. It all became really real for me. My feet in the stirrups lying there so exposed and vulnerable. I started to panic and got wobbly knees. I experienced the birth with my sister and internal examination is something they also do during labor. I completely failed to relax and you of course need to try to relax during labor. I was already dreading it but had the feeling that I would just let it all happen to me, now I don't have that feeling anymore and I'm extremely scared of what awaits me that day.

Talk it over with someone—your partner, midwife/OB, family, or a good friend. Try to figure out what exactly you’re afraid of: is it the unknown? The pain? Loss of control? Something else? Making a birth plan can help—it doesn’t mean your birth will go exactly as you want, but you can clearly state your preferences and how you’d like to be treated/approached. That can sometimes give you back a sense of control over what’s coming and help you feel a bit more prepared. Good luck and stay strong!

Lizy-lies, I really think that making a birth plan and discussing it with your midwife/OB and your partner can already help a lot. That way, at least they know what you want, even if you can't manage to say it yourself in the moment. I'd also suggest reading up on what can happen during childbirth. But not the horror stories—go for informative sites/books that prepare you for certain complications and how to best handle them. It can bring a lot of peace of mind. Are you taking a pregnancy course? Because you could also share your fears there, so they can help you with relaxation exercises you can use during labor.

I also gave birth in the hospital with 3 people looking in, so to speak but I do know that when you really have contractions, it really doesn't matter who or what is around you you're only focused on your baby, the rest doesn't matter anymore, at least that's how I experienced it the birth of your baby is too beautiful to worry about anything else good luck with the final stretch and wishing you a very smooth delivery

Thank you so much, Chantie! I have to say that the final stretch is really tough, and I’m getting a bit tired of being pregnant and want to hold my little miracle soon. This has also made the fear fade a bit. I just want to meet my little one!!

I totally get that! You're getting more and more curious about the little one in your belly Hang in there, it could happen any moment now
