false labor

Hi everyone, I'm just 37 weeks along and have been having Braxton Hicks contractions for a month now, and I'm already 5 cm dilated. My previous two kids were born prematurely, at 34 and 36 weeks, so I'm already happy I've made it this far. Are there any others who have experienced or are experiencing the same? I'm really feeling the discomfort, and I've gained 5 kg in the last month! Is my baby too heavy now? I'm seeing a midwife who doesn't have much time for all my questions.

Thanks,

Inge

    Hey Inge

That’s really tough, I hear you. It puts you in such uncertainty, right?
You don’t dare to leave the house because you’re afraid it might start suddenly.
Especially when you’ve been feeling so fragile for a while. I actually had severe contractions a few times and went to the hospital for a CTG.

    Here’s my story:

At 36 weeks, I lost a blood clot at night. I quickly started getting back pain and couldn’t find a comfortable position.
I felt like I had to pee every 10 minutes and kept bleeding – in my eyes, it seemed like an abnormal amount of blood loss. I called the midwife, and she came over. Normally they only help with labor from 37 weeks, but she came anyway. I had 2 cm dilation and regular contractions. I went to the hospital and was transferred.
After a few hours, the contractions stopped, but the bleeding continued, so I had to stay.
After 3 days in the hospital with contractions that would then stop again, they decided not to induce.
I was allowed to go home. On the waiting list, you could relax and see whether it would start or not!

I went around with those contractions for 1.5 weeks, then at 37.4 weeks my water broke. I thought, yay, finally!
Then the real work began. In less than 8 hours, our son was born. I was so happy that the real labor had started, and looking back, it was a super birth. I’d do it all over again in a heartbeat.
What a beautiful thing! The most beautiful thing there is is having a baby.

    Hi Irma,

Thanks for your reply. It's indeed the uncertainty that's been eating at me! And I'm so curious about my new baby too—how he'll look, how he'll behave, his little personality. Everyone is looking forward to it so much!

    Love,

    Inge
