How soon can you get pregnant again after a miscarriage?

Hi ladies,

I had a miscarriage on August 20th and have almost stopped bleeding. This was my first miscarriage, but I’d really like to get pregnant again. For those of you who have unfortunately gone through this too, how long were you pregnant after the miscarriage, and how long did you keep bleeding? I have no idea right now when my period will come, or if I’m even fertile this month, or when my next ovulation will be.

I hope you can help me out.

Love

First of all, my heart goes out to you. Losing a baby that you longed for is never easy, no matter how many weeks you were pregnant. In my case, it wasn't a miscarriage but a premature birth at 31 weeks, and unfortunately, he didn't make it. I had bleeding for 4 weeks afterward. Because I had to have an emergency C-section, we had to wait half a year before trying again, but my cycle was regular after the bleeding stopped, and 7 months after the C-section, I got pregnant right away. I can only say, be patient and see what your body does.

MamaNaoufie, that's so sad about your miscarriage! What Anoniem also says, that's always sad, no matter how early!
I had a miscarriage at 6.5 weeks pregnancy and in total had bleeding for about 2 weeks (a small week before the real miscarriage and a small week after). The midwife said back then that it could take up to 6 weeks until the next period after a miscarriage. Since I had no idea what my cycle would be like after the miscarriage and I like to have as much control as possible , I started using ovulation tests after the bleeding stopped. I had ovulation again 2.5 weeks after the miscarriage (so a cycle of 32 days) and got pregnant right away that round! Our daughter is now 5 weeks old

Give it time and hopefully you'll be pregnant again soon!

Anoniem, it's so incredibly sad that you lost your baby at 31 weeks!

MamaNaoufie, that's so really tough about your miscarriage. I'm actually in the same boat. I stopped the pill in late May after 10 years and got pregnant very quickly. After 4-5 weeks, it turned into a miscarriage. That was on July 24th. I bled for about a week. The first 2-3 days were very heavy, and then it gradually decreased. I was worried that my body was completely thrown off balance. However, after August 24th, I got my period for the first time.

My cycle was originally 29 days, and after the miscarriage, it became 31 days.

Are you also going for your first baby?

@suuske, thank you so much, girl.
@anoniem, at 31 weeks I personally find it maybe even sadder because your baby is then completely formed, which is really sad.

@summer, no, this is for our second child.

Hopefully we'll get pregnant soon with a healthy little miracle xxx

Ah, that's really tough. For me, it took over a month. I kept bleeding and ended up going to the hospital more than four times, where they just said it was normal... I was literally soaking through two postpartum pads in a minute, but whatever.

I went to the gynecologist last Thursday. Finally, one who took me seriously! Turns out, there was still a piece of the gestational sac left in my uterus. That's why the heavy bleeding kept going on. She removed it with a duck-bill forceps and gave me some Cytotec pills. Now I'm only losing a bit of old blood when wiping, and on Saturday I finally got a negative test! Yippee, I've never been so happy to see a negative test haha. Now back to trying with my husband, and onward to a positive

I have a follow-up appointment next Thursday, but I'm assuming everything will be clear by then

That’s so tough that you’ve been dealing with this for so long! And I totally get what you mean by bleeding. Good grief. I always thought that with a miscarriage you just lost the little embryo and that was it. Like a regular period, you know. Well, now I know. My body did its own thing and got rid of it. But I bled like a cow. Luckily, I hardly had any stomach pain. That was quite unusual, actually.

Unfortunately, I’ve also gotten my period again today. So I’m now on round 11.

It’s so nice that you’re trying again! Hopefully, you’ll soon have a baby that stays put. Wishing you all the best! But also take enough time to process everything. It’s quite a hit on your body (hormones) and also on your mind

First of all, my condolences to anyone who has had a miscarriage.
I had a miscarriage about 5 months ago at 6 weeks. Unfortunately, I haven't gotten pregnant again yet. But my cycle has been fairly regular right away.
Now, some people in my circle have said; at least you now know you can.
Is that really so? Could it be that there is still a fertility problem?
In the meantime, I'm becoming a bit desperate. All in all, we've been trying for 1 year and 1 month now..

@Bueno, yes exactly what you're saying, what a bummer. Honestly, I didn't have any stomach pain at all, maybe some cramps but nothing special. Not even after the Cytotec pills.

@Anonymous, honestly I don't know, girl. Luckily I do have a 15-month-old boy running around so I comfort myself with the thought that my body can indeed carry a baby. Are you already using ovulation tests? I've read a lot of stories about people thinking their ovulation was on a certain day but it actually wasn't. So they were timing it wrong. It could be that the problem lies with implantation or something similar. Can't you be referred to a gynecologist for tests?

    Love,

Just a quick update: wanted to let you know that I got a positive test this morning while wearing my dog coat, so it hit on round 6 after MK. I used an ovulation test set for the first time this month. Clear Blue double indicator, and it worked!
  10. Bueno #11

Eh, dog coat? Lol I meant "had in my hands".
  11. Suuske #12

Congratulations, Bueno! I wish you a very prosperous pregnancy!
  12. Bueno #13

    Thank you so much, Suuske!
  13. MamaN #14

Yayyy congratulations dear! And don't do too many tests in dog coats hehehe

    Enjoy it now!
  14. Bueno #15

Hahaha thank you!!! Hope it works out for you too soon!

Strength to everyone, and congratulations to those who are pregnant.

I myself had a miscarriage on September 2nd in our first round for our 2nd child... I was 5 weeks and 4 days. Since then, my cycle has been off. I got Provera on Nov 2nd to induce my period. I got my period suddenly on Nov 4th. Wow, I thought, that was fast. Today, I'm on day 23 (I think) of my cycle and unfortunately, no ovulation in sight yet.

Who got pregnant right after the MC (after the bleeding stopped, of course)?
I’d prefer to start trying right away and not wait for my period first. According to the doctor, this is fine, and so does the internet. What do you all say?
If you get pregnant right away, you don’t know exactly how far along you are, but well, you’ll find out via an ultrasound, I guess. So I can come in earlier for an ultrasound if I get pregnant again, which is nice.
How long after the MC did you ovulate? Do you know?
I’d love to hear your experiences.

    Hi Ilona,

I didn't wait for my period to come back after my miscarriage either. After the last bit was removed from my womb mid-September, the bleeding stopped. Half a week later, I got another bleed that looked like my period. Then I had one normal period after a 28-day cycle, just like before, and now I'm pregnant again. So my body took about a month to two to get pregnant again. I did keep having unprotected sex during that time though

Finally, after the miscarriage, ovulation on day 25 (!!!!!)

    Now on the two-week wait
  19. Suuske #20

Hi Ilona, we also kept trying right away and got pregnant again immediately! (My daughter is now 4 months old) I had ovulation about 2.5 weeks after the actual miscarriage (the day with the worst bleeding and cramps).

Mama26, exciting! Good luck on the waiting bench!
