Irregular cycle, what now?

Good morning!

I stopped the pill last July, initially to de-pill and let nature take its course. My partner and I didn't actively try to get pregnant over the past year, but we also didn't use any contraception, so we just saw what would happen.

Since stopping the pill, I've had a very irregular cycle (40-100-32-44-24-35 days), which I've been tracking via an app to get some insight. The average comes out to 30 days. Currently, I'm on day 43 of my cycle and have already taken a test, which was negative.

In January, I visited my GP regarding the irregularity, and she said that as long as we weren't actively trying, I should enjoy the long cycle. I'm not fond of uncertainty and would like to know where I stand a bit better.

How can I best get insight into my cycle? I'd like to use ovulation tests and the basal body temperature method, but I have no idea when my period will come. Should I wait until then?
I hope someone has some tips!

Thanks in advance!

    Hi hi,

It's all so frustrating, isn't it? I also have a very irregular cycle and have been seriously trying for almost a year now. My cycles range from 29 to 53 days.

First off: if you're not yet seriously trying, then enjoy those long cycles for now and keep tracking everything in the app. I do that myself too, and it helps to get some insight for when you do want to start trying seriously.

Also, if you do want to get serious about it (which I think I'm reading), start with just ovulation tests. You can do temperature tracking later. Take the first test 10 to 14 days after your period. Test around midday, like 12:00 or 13:00. Don't use first morning urine, as this can give you a distorted result!

Did that answer your question? Good luck with it!

    Warm regards, Hopeful

I also have irregular periods, between 29 and 35 days, and once it shot up to 39 days.
I'm going to start using ovulation tests on my GP's advice because we're trying for our first baby!
I'm currently on my period, and 10 days after my last period day, I'll start with the ovulation tests.
    It's all so exciting!

I’m also super irregular with my periods. Last month I tried a lot of ovulation tests, but because of the irregularity, I ended up testing on the wrong days. After searching online for a long time, I found out that Efamol PMP from De Tuinen might help. I think it contains evening primrose oil, which helps regulate your cycle. I started taking it right away. I don’t know if it’s coincidence, but this time I tested positive for ovulation on day 21 for the first time. That means my period will come much earlier than ever before. Maybe it’ll help you too with improving your cycle. It could be coincidence, but I’m happy so far haha

Hi, I know... I stopped the pill in February 2015, and haven't had a period since July 13th. Ovulation tests are unclear...
