Experience with Provera?? Trying to get pregnant

Hi everyone,

I'm new here. I'm Josien, 27, and I've been off the pill for just over a year now. My periods have become very irregular; since stopping last year, I've only had four periods, and they've been very light. There's no real pattern either—sometimes it's over three months, then suddenly three weeks later again. I went back to the gynecologist a few weeks ago. They did an ultrasound and took blood tests. My hormones turned out to be fine, and I do have eggs. My body just isn't working properly, and they don't know why yet. I'm starting a Provera course now to reset things. Has anyone here had experience with this? Since stopping the pill, I've had quite a bit of trouble with hormones and the resulting fluctuations (not that there's any regularity, so it's pretty irritating). I'm curious to hear about experiences with Provera for this issue; I've been reading a lot about people using it for severe period pain or menopausal symptoms.

Best, Josien

    Hi Josien

I took Provera for a year, between failed fertility treatments. I didn't get my period at all after stopping the pill, and my uterus had to be 'clean' each time before I could be treated, hence the Provera.

From your story, I understand that you get one course of treatment in the hope that things will improve on their own afterwards?

    Hi Crumb,

Yes, that's right. I have 10 days to reset. The idea is that after those 10 days I'll get a withdrawal bleed, and they hope that will help regulate my period again. If I don't get my period 4 to 5 weeks after that bleed, I need to make another appointment at the hospital so they can look further into it. At first, she thought it was PCOS, but my hormones are actually fine.

Okay! I hope your cycle resets!
Unfortunately, it didn’t work out that way for me—it was due to PCOS...
It’s a shame they don’t know where the irregularity comes from. Hopefully, Provera will sort it out for you!

    Hi, I'm Rachelle.
I've just started taking Provera for the 3rd time now. I also have irregular periods and PCOS. Today was already the last Provera tablet and I still haven't gotten my period... I feel really awful, no pain but I'm nauseous and sleepy.
I've had this problem for 5 years, which is why I can't get pregnant. But after the first and second course of Provera, I got my period properly. Let's hope a little one comes along too.
    Greetings...
