Sleeping

Our son will be two years old in less than two months.
He's never really slept through the night properly, it's always been a struggle.
Lately, it's really getting out of hand! We're going crazy. He wakes up every night and then it takes forever for him to fall back asleep. Today he woke up at four o'clock and was wide awake! Didn't want to sleep anymore and didn't sleep at all! We've tried everything but it's not working. Our second baby is due in three months, and my husband and I are already exhausted from the lack of sleep. What on earth are we going to do when there's another newborn around? Does anyone have any tips???

Pfff... sounds really tough, indeed. Our son was 6 when the second one came. Now the second is 5 months old and luckily has been sleeping through the night for a month now.....s6 further

We had this with our oldest when he was 1 year old. For three weeks straight, every night he woke up between 2 and 5 AM (!!!), I couldn't take it anymore. So I went looking for answers and it turns out that when they wake up at roughly the same time (for a long time), it's because their blood sugar levels drop too low, which means they don't produce enough melatonin. The advice was to mix a teaspoon of grape sugar into the last bottle or cup of milk. We did it, and the little guy slept through the night right away! It can't hurt and is worth trying, right?

Maybe it's an idea to pay attention to his afternoon nap and reduce it. Maybe then he'll get tired faster in the evening and sleep through the night better. So try to shorten his afternoon nap or let him sleep earlier so he's tired earlier in the evening. Luckily, I never experienced this. My daughters slept through the night after 3 months.

A nightlight helped us out. We figured that out after 2.5 years of trying everything. Good luck, hopefully this phase will be over soon.
