Age of first period & impact on pregnancy

Hi ladies,

I got my period at a very young age (I was 11, actually). And now this question came up in my mind last week: could this also affect your fertility? Has anyone here heard their GP or gynecologist say anything about it? We were hoping to start trying around May, and now I suddenly started worrying that my egg supply might already be depleted because of it... :-/.

Thanks in advance for the replies!

    Hi!

"Even during pregnancy, all the eggs for a female fetus's entire life are already made. When the fetus is about 6 months old, the ovaries contain around 6 to 7 million eggs. Many of these eggs die off before birth; at birth, the female baby still has around 2 million eggs. By the time you get your first period, you'll have 'only' around 300,000 left. But that's still more than enough. On average, a woman has about 500 cycles in her life, which means only 500 eggs actually mature."

This just comes from the internet, not from my gynecologist, but every site says roughly the same thing. It could naturally be different, but I wouldn't assume that, so don't worry!

Hi Crumb, thanks for your reply and the info! I had read bits and pieces about this before, but not the full overview like this. It feels a bit calmer in the subject now Thanks!
