Hi, I'm a 20-year-old girl. I've been on the pill for 5 years and it always went well. But for a few months now, it's been less reliable. I've been more stressed because I've been through a tough period. I've been with my boyfriend for 8 months now, but in the last few months, about 4 times I've forgotten one pill. Mostly in the second week, so that wasn't a big problem. But this month I forgot 3 pills. The very first pill I forgot and only noticed in the evening, didn't take it at all. Then Sunday and Monday at the start of the second week. And last Saturday after going out, didn't take it, but took it the next morning at half past 11. I'm now in my third week. Tonight is my last pill and Wednesday I should get my period. However, I'm having some breast pain now. Not too severe, but I do feel it sometimes. And I'm having more lower abdominal discomfort. A very strange feeling like I should already be on my period, which shouldn't be possible. So I was wondering if you guys could help with this. Know anything about it.

I work as a pharmacy assistant and personally believe you can't get pregnant "through the pill." When taken correctly, the chance of pregnancy is 0.01%. That's very low :-) In your case, the pill wasn't used correctly... yet the chance of pregnancy remains tiny. I'll try to explain a bit; it's not that 1 tablet protects you for 1 day—those 21 pills work together to protect you for a month. This cooperation blocks ovulation, makes it harder for sperm to reach the uterus, AND makes the uterine lining less suitable for implantation in case of fertilization. So even forgetting the pill for 1 or 2 days should still protect you sufficiently.
I'm not saying you can't be pregnant, but that the chance is still very small.

Did I help you a bit?

It could also be that you're having these symptoms now out of fright, anxiety, or stress because you think you might be pregnant...
Of course, if you regularly forget to take your pills, it might be worth considering a different contraceptive method, e.g., an IUD for 5 years or the mini-pill with an injection every 3 months. Or if you mainly forget the first pill, you could switch to a 28-day pill, which you would just keep taking.

My advice: wait calmly for now. I once thought I was pregnant too, but it was a false alarm. If you don't get your period on Thursday, you can take a test. It's possible that your period is coming a day later than usual due to stress; that was the case for me too... Although I still think I had a miscarriage back then... Also because of the gynecologist's reaction to my story.
And then talk to your GP or gynecologist about another option than the pill

    Hi.

Can you still get pregnant between ovulation and implantation? My partner and I had unexpected sex last night.

    We would really like it.

    Best, Anoniempje.

    Hi,

What I'm wondering now is when my ovulation is. After the pill, I had flow for 4 days, then none for a day, and then very light or no flow again. Can I just use those four days to calculate the time from menstruation to ovulation?

Thanks for sharing your story! I'm so sorry it happened again for the second time. I hope you'll get pregnant again soon. But it must be getting harder to take that step again after it's gone wrong a few times... How does that feel for you?

Well, I bought the test strips from Action, they come in a box and cost almost nothing.

Yes, it usually feels like it happens to other people, but not to yourself.

It’s quite a shock when it suddenly goes wrong for you too. I already have a healthy 7.5-year-old daughter, and I had a super pregnancy with her, so it was extra tough that it went wrong this time. But on the other hand, it’s a sign to me that my body can still work after all the hassle with my cycle, and my hope for a second child can still come true. I’m 32 now, so at least I’m hoping to get pregnant this year :-)

Who knows, maybe we can congratulate each other at the same time soon haha, let’s hope!

    Hi!
    I'm 33 and already a mom to a son who's almost 11.
My partner and I would love to have another baby, but is it harder now that I'm over 30?
I hope some of you can help me out with this—does it really make a difference or not?
    Cheers, Gerry
