Cycle

Hi everyone,

My partner and I have decided to start trying for a baby. I threw away my pill strip right away—I stopped halfway through.

Today is day 6 without the pill and I’m getting my period. Can I count this as a real period, and is this day 1 of my first cycle? Or is it just a withdrawal bleed?

Thanks for your answers! Experiences with this are also very welcome!

They told me that the first bleeding is indeed your period. Good luck with your wish for a child, and hopefully, you'll see results soon!

I stopped the pill in mid-May, and had bleeding right after, but I don't think it was a real period. Six weeks later I got my period for the first time again and I really noticed the difference—it was much more liquid, lasted only 4 days, and I had much less discomfort than before.
Of course, every body works differently, so it's possible you could get pregnant already now. I think you should just try, but not get too many hopes up.

My body needed a little time to get back into gear after stopping the pill. I was a bit irregular at first, but then my period naturally returned. My body just needed to find its hormonal balance again.
My tip... give it some time... And good luck!

Give yourself at least a year to get back to normal after stopping the pill.

The first bleed isn't your actual period—it just kicks everything back into gear. Don't be surprised if there are weeks or even months between that first bleed and the next one.
