Unexplained subfertility

Hi everyone,
I hope to find some support and courage here.
We are the lucky parents of a beautiful 3.5-year-old daughter.
We had a difficult birth and initially I didn't even think about having a second child because of the trauma from the first delivery.
After many conversations and help, we decided to try for a second child after 1.5 years. The desire was so strong that we just went for it! Excited and hopeful, we started, and we were pregnant right away with our first girl. So we secretly hoped it would happen quickly again, but nothing could be further from the truth. It's been 1.5 years now, and we're almost done with the fertility treatment. No cause has been found for why we haven't been able to conceive. We're going through a tough time and don't know what to do anymore. Medically, they call it unexplained subfertility. And now the hospital is letting us go to try again for another year. We're not okay with that because I'm almost 40 and we feel powerless. Are there people who have gone through this too and have tips for us? We've already seen an osteopath and a homeopath, but unfortunately, it hasn't helped us at all.
And are there people who have sought a second opinion elsewhere and how does that work?
If you have any tips, we'd love to hear them.

Lieke, are you chatting in the mmm group? There are ladies just before the medical maze and in the mm group, both doing IUI and IVF.
We also have a 3.5-year-old son and have been trying for over 2.5 years. (Had a C-section earlier, so also had a tough delivery). Without any explainable reason, it hasn’t worked out for us yet. We’re now in round 4 of IUI.
Do they really send you home for another year? At 35+, isn’t it normally just half a year? Or should you already have the first tests after half a year?

My tip for you: pay attention to your diet (vitamins and minerals) and drink enough. Otherwise, there’s not much you can do yourself.

As a tip, take folic acid + vitamin D + vitamin B complex. And start doing ovulation tests from about day 10 of your cycle... keep testing until it's positive.
And you'll know it's not due to your own timing.

From the very first attempt, we've been testing with various ovulation tests, and in recent weeks, combined with cycle analysis from the hospital, but it's still not working.
Yeah, they're sending us home again. After a year and two months, we were eligible for treatment, and now that they can't find anything wrong, we have to try for another year. We really don't want that and would like a second opinion.
I'm sticking to the usual vitamins and supplements, and they've tested for deficiencies via blood, but there aren't any.
    Our diet is healthy.
I'm just reading along on the other forum, but there's no further treatment plan for us at the moment.
We'd like to try IUI ourselves, so we're going to request a second opinion.

I also think a year after 40+ is pretty long. You could indeed call another hospital and ask about their procedure.
Assume that you'll have to try for at least 6 months on your own. But who knows, you might gain 6 months somewhere else. Then you'd start with IUI (6x), usually also immediately with hormones, and only then possibly IVF.
If you live close to the border... in Germany and Belgium they investigate much more thoroughly. So that might be worth trying? Keep in mind your insurance though. Mine only covers 70% abroad.
