Positive, 2 weeks before hysteroscopy

Hey everyone.

I just have a question regarding a hysteroscopy after a miscarriage.

We had to miscarry our second little one at 7 weeks on May 25th. It had been lifeless in my womb for 3 weeks before it came out. I got two courses of misoprostol but it didn't do anything. After taking the pill for a month (since I had no cycle and was scared of a D&C), almost everything was gone after the break week, except for a couple of small calcified pieces. These are being removed in 2 weeks via a hysteroscopy.

Now I've been having episodes of sudden vomiting for a few weeks (thought it was bad food, coming flu, ...), pelvic discomfort again, and because I was eating everything and anything, someone joked that I looked pregnant. I knew better but was curious what a test would show. It wasn't like I was thinking about a new pregnancy or anything.
So it took a while for 1 + 1 to equal 2, but then it clicked. This morning there was a thick red line on the pregnancy test. Very nice but I'm sure I'm not pregnant since I was just at the gynecologist for a follow-up 3 weeks ago and there was nothing to see on a nice lining and then those calcified pieces.

Now I've been told that a pregnancy test is done before a hysteroscopy to avoid accidentally ending a very early pregnancy.
Has anyone had a hysteroscopy and had a pregnancy test beforehand, or does anyone know more about this?

I've already made an appointment with the GP for a blood test to maybe have proof that the hCG isn't continuing to rise like in a pregnancy.

Thanks in advance, Fleur. X

Could it be that you ovulated a week after that ultrasound and are now pregnant from that? That would have been two weeks ago, so you could have a positive test now.
It probably isn't positive because of your miscarriage, that was a while ago. In my case, the hCG was gone after 3 weeks post-miscarriage.
Hope you get more clarity after the blood test and possibly an ultrasound before starting treatment? Good luck!

I also had a hysteroscopy. I didn't have to do a test (they didn't ask me either). I was just having my period during the hysteroscopy. So you can definitely be pregnant. I was advised not to get pregnant before the hysteroscopy.. this is because if you have another miscarriage, it's even higher because there's still some tissue from the previous pregnancy. I'll just call the hospital to find out what I should do now.. good luck!

Thanks for the replies. Suddenly hope is rising that it could still be a real one, but the line was so dark. And suddenly logic seems to have left the building. It's not the kind of faint line you'd say could be from the first month of pregnancy. This line appeared right away and was very dark. Maybe the gynecologist will still spot an early pregnancy after all, but that would be quite the twist though I wouldn't blame them since they often have to call in a second gynecologist anyway. Which happened at the last appointment too.

They didn't say much about preventing a future pregnancy, though it seemed logical to avoid getting pregnant again. It was about 2 very small calcified spots where they first just wanted to see what it was, and if necessary, remove it later. One gynecologist even suggested just waiting to see if it would pass on its own.

So I'll call on Monday instead of waiting for the blood test result.
    Both, thanks so much!

@fleur24 I was curious if you knew more yet??

I got a call from the doctor this morning, and the value was a bit under 300. Given the circumstances, I think that's pretty good. The GP thinks it's due to placental fragments, but she can't be sure. Makes sense since we're all kind of guessing here. The previous ultrasound didn't give a clear answer either about what the fragments were. On Friday, they'll run another test just to rule out a new pregnancy. Normally, the value should still be around 300 or have dropped slightly.
(I didn't dare call the hospital out of fear that my appointment would be canceled. I had to wait 5 weeks for it )

Okay, now I'm curious! I get that you're not calling the hospital right away. Good that they're checking it again on Friday! Good luck with everything

I don't know what to think anymore. HCG is almost at 900 today I can't hide my happiness. The doctor is still being cautious, of course—they're naturally afraid of giving the wrong diagnosis. The only thing I'm scared of right now is a new miscarriage or a false pregnancy.

To wrap it all up. After a few more blood tests and 3 ultrasounds, we're expecting our second little one in about 34-35 weeks. Now hoping for a smooth pregnancy. And the remnants from the miscarriage eventually disappeared without any (noticeable) bleeding or anything.

    Many greetings!
