Big age difference

Hi everyone,
My partner and I would really like to start our own family. I want this so much, but I have some concerns... he's 39 and I'm 26. Are there many couples with a big age gap where the man at this age still has no problem conceiving?
Thanks, ladies.

Hi Anna, my dad and mom were 39 and 26 when they had me.. I turned out pretty okay, I’d say. Haha. After that, they had 2 more sons, my brothers, and my dad was 45 by the last one. So it’s totally fine! Anyway, men can keep having kids forever, while we women have a “shelf life,” so to speak.

I think the mother's age is the most important. Older dads are often calmer. That gives them an advantage. I was the last of 6 kids. My dad was 38. And it always worked out well.

    Hi Anna.
I'm 29 and my husband is 42. We have two kids: one is 6 and the other just turned 1, so it's totally fine. A man can wait longer, and a woman... My mom told me I had to drink one vitamin C effervescent tablet every day until I got pregnant, and I was taking folic acid with extra stuff in it! But don't worry, it's all good! So I say go for it, let's do this!

My husband also has a 10-year-old daughter, and we'd like to have one more child in two years. Men's age doesn't count; only women's age does.

Thanks for your replies, it puts my mind at ease. We started this month, so it's really exciting. The 12th is my NOD date, so I'm very curious, really thrilling.

My husband and I are a bit more than you and your man.
We now have 2 kids, 2 and 3 years old. My husband is 50 now... so it's totally fine. Your man is definitely not too old...

    I'm responding anonymously.
My husband is much older than me and over 50. After five months, we were pregnant.
The gynecologist said it would be much worse if my eggs were ten years older than his sperm cells.

That about the man isn't quite right. If the man is over 45, sperm quality decreases. Then the chance of abnormalities is greater.

Although it's a much smaller percentage for men than for women.

I think you should mainly look at yourself. And at your future children. My husband is 42 and we already have 2 younger children, aged 4 and 3.

My husband is 50, I'm 33, and we have a 3-year-old son and are trying for a second. Sometimes someone asks me if I'm not scared that people will see my husband as the grandfather instead of the father. Then I get angry. My husband is super nice with our son, and we have a good relationship and a happy life. That's already a lot, right? I know so many women with kids where the father isn't even in the picture, or is too busy with himself and barely pays attention to the kids, or people who start a family while they're in a really bad financial or relational situation. If I had gotten a kid with one of my exes (from my own age), we'd be in a much worse spot because my past relationships were all disasters. My husband says he's actually happy to have kids later in life; he says he has much more peace and patience now. You're not dead at 50, right? He's also not at all old-fashioned, always helpful to everyone, always busy, everything running smoothly. No, I'm not a gold digger, but I am happy with a stable relationship and a solid foundation for our kids. I think our son is lucky to have such a nice dad. It's not about quantity but quality, right, or something like that haha

People I know, the man was 46 and the woman 31, just had two kids.
