Long cycle

Hi there,

I'm 31 and a mom to a 15-month-old daughter. We've been trying for our second baby since November. With the first one, I got pregnant within 3 months. Unfortunately, it's taking a bit longer this time.

Since my periods returned after my pregnancy, my cycle has been very irregular and often quite long. I went to see my GP two months ago and had a blood test for FSH, but everything came back normal.

I use ovulation tests and usually manage to find my peak. Unfortunately, not last month, but I also wasn't super consistent with testing at the same time each day. I'm now on day 38 and testing negative for pregnancy.

What would you guys do? And how do I start tracking my ovulation again? Should I wait until I get my period?

Thanks so much in advance!
MM

Maybe your ovulation was later, which means your period might also be later? I think you should wait for your period, or if you haven't gotten it within a week, maybe take another pregnancy test? Otherwise, I'd go to the doctor.

    Thanks.
I'll wait and see. The GP mentioned they'd only refer me after a year.
I'm curious because this makes me really unsure.

I'm also 15 months postpartum now. Got my first period in November and the second one in May. So 160 days apart. I'm curious if it'll come next month, because I'd really like to try for a second baby. I've never had a positive ovulation test either, nor a pregnancy test. I'd just wait for the next one to come; maybe your ovulation was just later after all.

I was off the pill for 1.5 years and had cycles that varied from 26 to 45 days. My gynecologist told me that if you have a cycle longer than 40 days, you don't ovulate. I was constantly way too focused on it. The month I had a 45-day cycle, I took 5 tests and had a blood test with my GP. Only when that came back negative did I finally get my period haha! You can really delay it by overthinking it... So don't worry about it! You just need to let go. I even had a time when I was supposed to get my period on Tuesday, and we were going to Center Parcs on Friday. I spent the whole month hoping I'd just get my period on Tuesday so I wouldn't have to swim with tampons. It kept delaying until we went on Friday. Then I told myself and my husband that it didn't matter anymore since I'd already gotten my period at Center Parcs. And sure enough, 2 hours later I had terrible cramps and a flood of blood hahaha.. You really have a huge influence on it yourself... Have you ever tried tracking your temperature?

Thanks for your reply! It really did me good. I got my period on the 40th day. I'm going to track my temperatures this month; I think I'm right now just before ovulation. I'm curious.

The most important thing is to try not to get too caught up in it. I tracked my temperature for 2 months on my GP's advice. I could clearly see a drop before my ovulation and then it was high and stayed high until my period. Despite tracking the temps, no positive test. Since you're having sex too late once you see a peak, your ovulation has already happened by then. Still nice to at least see that you do ovulate!

I'm not entirely sure if I ovulated. Unfortunately, I couldn't find anything with tests last month, but I did the months before.

Hopefully, taking my temperature will bring clarity. I did notice a drop in my temperature this morning compared to the previous days... I'm curious to see.

    Hi!
Had a super clear positive test on Saturday and Sunday. See the photo. Saturday morning I was busy with chores, and Sunday evening. I had night shift on Saturday so it couldn’t have been any other way.
Now I’m curious if my temperature will be higher tomorrow morning compared to the past few days.
    Fingers crossed now....

Ooh exciting! At least you're in a good spot! It shouldn't matter whether you did it in the morning or evening. If you had a strong positive test on Saturday morning and also on Sunday, your egg usually releases 24-36 hours after that, so you timed it around the right days. Fingers crossed the sperm arrive quickly haha! Exciting!
