Really more fertile after a miscarriage?

I had a miscarriage 2 weeks ago and would really like to get pregnant again as soon as possible. Why does one gynecologist say you're more fertile after a miscarriage, while another says otherwise? You hear so many conflicting stories about this. What are your experiences/opinions?

Hi hi. I’d never heard of it before, but I had a miscarriage in January after trying for half a year. And I had quite a long period of bleeding afterward. In April, I got pregnant. Unfortunately, I did develop gestational diabetes. Turns out that happens faster after a miscarriage.

    Hey Anneke,

That's really sad to hear about your miscarriage. I don't know if you're really more fertile now; some say yes, others say no. I got pregnant with my daughter while still on the pill, and with the second one, after 1 month, it ended in a miscarriage at 11.5 weeks. For me, it took 4 months before I got pregnant again. My hormones were all over the place, and I had weird cycles for the first three months after that. Hopefully, it goes quickly for you, and you'll be able to welcome a little miracle soon!

That really is quite different indeed. The 'myth' held up here. I always seemed to get pregnant faster after each pregnancy. With my son it took 2 years to get pregnant, but that was also a good pregnancy. Then I stopped the pill in May and already had a positive test in October (very fast for me!). Unfortunately, this ended in a miscarriage. I couldn't find an ovulation cycle after that and we didn't really feel like continuing right away, so we skipped November. In December we started again with good spirits and then I got pregnant again and had another early miscarriage. Then we decided to start again right away. January 3rd was the start of the miscarriage. I used ovulation tests and had a cycle of over 6 weeks that month. On February 17th I tested positive again and now I'm almost 15 weeks pregnant with our princess

So the myth did hold up here! I do recommend using ovulation tests. Your cycle can be very different than usual. So keep testing until you get a positive test; this can take longer than you're used to. I only got ovulation again more than 4 weeks after the start of the miscarriage. But it was a good one right away because I was pregnant then.

I wish you lots of strength and success. I know from my own experience how difficult it can be, but in most cases: perseverance pays off!

    Hey deb95.
Thank you for your sweet message.
So keep testing, that's the message. But we won't give up and hope for a positive pregnancy soon.

I got pregnant right after my first round with my IUD, so it apparently worked out.

That's true too. Miscarriage in March '18, pregnant again in April, and gave birth in Jan '19. Good luck!!

Nice to hear positive stories. Did you get pregnant quickly after your miscarriage? For us, it took 4 months of trying. How long was your cycle after the miscarriage? My miscarriage was on April 13th, so I'm counting from that date, and normally my cycle is 28 days. But if I trust my ovulation tests, I haven't ovulated yet.

I was pregnant in round 1, had a miscarriage after 10 weeks. Then it took 6 months for my cycle to normalize, and in the 7th month I got pregnant again, which ended in a miscarriage at 6 weeks. Then I got pregnant with our daughter right away, who is already 4 months old I also often read that some say yes and others say no. And now I'm pregnant with the second, completely unexpectedly after just one careless moment, but he or she is so welcome
