Forum Pregnant and working

Already at home from 23 weeks onwards

Hi there,

I'm looking for ladies who have also been at home for quite a while. Actually, I haven't worked full-time since June last year; it started with a miscarriage that had a very long aftermath. With a bit of luck, I got pregnant again quickly, but this pregnancy is also quite difficult. I'm now 26 weeks pregnant and had bed rest from 23 weeks due to many hard contractions and high blood pressure. Since then, I haven't worked full days anymore. I went to work as a temp for one day yesterday, and today I'm already back in the hospital for hard contractions. I find it really hard to not have control. Staying at home isn't exactly my strong suit either. Work has been making things very difficult for me for months now... hopefully, I'll find like-minded people here!

    Hi!

I’ve been home since week 5 of my pregnancy due to maternity protection leave. For us, the rule is: as soon as you know you’re pregnant, you stay home.

It’s a different reason than yours, but it’s still frustrating being at home. I feel guilty towards my colleagues (it was already so busy at work) and especially because I haven’t even had an ultrasound yet. I also don’t really know “what to do” since it’s our first baby and now you can’t really go anywhere...

I notice this topic was started quite a while ago—how did you get through the rest of your pregnancy?

    Hi Lore,
It’s sad that you’re already home so soon. But on the other hand, it’s also really nice! You can enjoy your pregnancy more, especially if it’s stress-free. I can imagine it gets boring quickly, especially these days, being home so soon. My pregnancy was difficult, and it did me and the little girl so much good once I no longer had work stress! I was induced at 38+3, and our beautiful girl was born last June at 38+5! She’s almost a year and a half old now, and next month we’re starting for a second child??? What I really want to give you is: enjoy, because it goes by so fast! Work will go on longer than you and your colleagues, and work will continue without you! I wish you a wonderful pregnancy, and feel free to chat with me anytime if you need to! Lots of love, Mirell

Thank you @Mirell. With the awful nausea I was dealing with so much, it was really nice to be at home without having to answer to work. Now I feel better and can help out a bit with the renovation we're working on, at my own pace. Indeed, I'm really trying to enjoy every moment fully. I notice the stress from work dropping away massively, and it's wonderful—can only be good for the little one .

Hey, when I was pregnant with my son, I was already at home around 22 weeks. I had it checked because I was having a lot of hard contractions, and I also have a risk of preterm labor. Here we are trying for another baby, and anyway, I'm asking again to stop earlier, already from 17 weeks.

If you have medical reasons to stay home, I think it's definitely important that you get that chance.
I was mostly scared of reactions from others like "back in my day I had to work until the very last moment," and I don't understand why a lab technician can stay home but a nurse can't. Risks seem present in both cases.
But oh well, those reactions don't matter to me anymore. I can't change anything anyway, so I might as well relax and enjoy myself .
I'm curious how I'll spend my time now that I'm no longer tied to the chair/bed/toilet. I wanted to go swimming regularly, but due to Corona that's not allowed, and not being able to shop now is just good for my wallet .
Our (new) house will be fully furnished, cleaned, and tidy by the time of the birth; and moving without having to take time off is also a plus .

@babytje definitely think about yourself and the little one on the way. I had to learn that myself too, but I'm definitely going to do the same for my second!
@lore yeah pff people always have their opinions ready for you.. But it's nice that you can let it go now. Enjoying is really the most important thing. It's nice that you can help out a bit with the renovation, that way you're still doing things at your own pace! Haha I know shopping too well unfortunately, I shop online a lot now too, not so good for the wallet???? We're looking for a house to buy.. Very difficult but our 1-bedroom apartment is becoming too small haha especially now that we're starting on a 2nd.
