maternity leave and Christmas holiday

Who knows how maternity leave works when a holiday falls during it?
I work in primary education. My due date is January 31st.
According to an online calculator, I should start my maternity leave around December 20th. But then the entire Christmas holiday falls during my leave.
Do I just have bad luck, or do I get those weeks later?

I guess it's just bad luck, unfortunately.

Hi, there is actually a scheme for this that means you get longer maternity leave. I don't remember exactly how it works, but I remember reading it somewhere once!

You could ask P&O about it; they should know!

    Hi Andrea,

This is what it says on the CNV union website.

Only maternity leave that falls during the summer holidays is compensated for up to a maximum of 3 weeks.

    Sorry!!!!

I think something's off with that compensation. Maternity leave always runs until six weeks after birth, regardless of holidays. Those extra three weeks only apply if you resign during the summer holidays. So it doesn't work for Christmas. Just double-check with your HR, they'll know for sure.
