Anxiety about NIPT results

Hi everyone,
Last Thursday I had my blood drawn for the NIPT, and it's only been one working day since then, yet I still have to wait at least 9 working days for the results. I'm driving myself crazy, and at this rate, those 9 days will feel incredibly slow. How did you all cope with this? Were you as nervous as I am? I don't know how to get past this anxiety and uncertainty. I'd love to hear your thoughts and how you experienced it. Thanks in advance, love!

Oh, so two working days have passed now. I wrote this part last Saturday on another site. I didn't get any response here, and the nerves are still there. I keep thinking what if... what if... what if? Eight more working days to go.... I just don't know if I can be happy about the pregnancy right now. Or is this really very strange? I haven't told anyone else, so I can't really open up to my close ones. My boyfriend gets grumpy and irritated by my mood swings. I'm just so scared that something's wrong. I'm also lying awake all the time again. Really a drama queen.

    Hi Zoe,
I had that fear too, and luckily it turned out to be nothing because everything was fine!
Don’t know how old you are, but the chance that something will come out is really small. Unfortunately, there’s nothing else to do but wait... good luck, girl! Let me know if anything changes?

    Hi Maaike,
It's good to hear that those fears aren't really unusual and it's nice to get the reassuring results. Well, I'm already 35 and this is my first baby. So I'm not exactly young anymore, and the chances do increase that something might not be right. Because of this stress, I keep thinking, why did I wait so long to have kids? If something is wrong, I might be too late to become a mother. Maybe it's silly thoughts, but I'm definitely someone who can fall into doom thinking. Thoughts like "but what if...?" pop up all the time. What if? What if? It's really annoying, definitely.

    Love, Zoë

    Hi Zoë,
It's a tough period, pregnancy hormones drive you crazy. Add in the love for your unborn child and you're emotionally overwhelmed. Unfortunately, you can only seek distraction. The chance that something will come out is small. They test for 3 to 4 genetic abnormalities that don't occur very often. As far as I know, Down syndrome is more common among women over 40, and even then, the chance of having a healthy baby is so much greater. I hope you get good news, but unfortunately, it's a very uncertain time. Strength and hopefully you find some distraction.
    Greetings, floydi

    Hi.
I understand that this is a very stressful and scary time. I don't want to scare you, but I also want to show the other side. Even though the chance is small, there is a possibility of having a disabled child. I myself was incredibly unlucky in this regard, getting a negative NIPT result at 24 years old. The baby had Down syndrome, and the chance of this happening to me at my age was 0.08%.

Try to find distractions and do fun things with your partner or friends. The chance that it will happen to you is also very small. But remember that stressing about it isn't good for the little one either.
I'm rooting for you, and it will surely turn out fine.

So relatable, Zoë. I was also really nervous/scared about what the NIPT results would show. Luckily, everything was fine for me too (I’m 38), which was such a relief. Hopefully, you’ll get good news soon too. For me, the results came in a bit more than a week (they said it would take two weeks). Hopefully, yours will come sooner too. In the meantime, stay positive and find distractions.
That’s really tough, anonymous, that you got a bad NIPT result!

Yes, it was really intense, Anne. It’s been a while now, and we’re blessed with a healthy baby!

Hi hi, thanks for the replies. I hope he'll get the results a bit faster too, and Anoniem... it's such a shock, you're so young and that's really the last thing you'd expect to think about. It's so nice that you now have a healthy baby, and Anne and Floydi... yeah, finding distractions is important, but those radar-like thoughts and streams of worry just keep going, no matter what I do. I'm glad that this stress during the waiting period is relatable. I found out today from the GP that I'll only get a call if the results aren't good, and I'll receive good news by post. That means quite a few little scare moments when my phone rings next week. I'll see how I get through these weeks. Anyway, keep breathing deeply ????
    Lots of love, Zoë

    Hi,

I also had my blood test on Monday, and the results came back on Tuesday, so it can happen fast! I got a good result too. I'm 33 years old and did ICSI, which gives an even bigger chance, but everything turned out fine. I'm a bit more laid-back, so I didn't get too stressed!

    Good luck!

Dear people, first of all, thank you so much for the replies I got, and secondly, I received the NIPT results today via mail and everything is gooddddddd!!! I got it a bit more than a week early. So it was pretty fast. And luckily no incidental findings. To everyone still waiting for the results... lots of strength and success! Love, Zoë
