Semen analysis?

Hi ladies,

We’ve been trying for 17 months now due to our desire for a child. Unfortunately, I have PCOS, which I only found out about 2 months ago. I just finished a course of Clomid and have an ultrasound on Wednesday to see if it’s working.

The gynecologist wanted to do a semen analysis for my partner just to be safe. It was the first time, and we were a bit chuckling about it, hoping everything would be fine.

The results were very poor, unfortunately. Only 3.2 million swimmers, with 87% dead and 13% alive. Our world has crumbled.

I have the feeling that something went wrong at home. It’s a bit embarrassing to explain, but I’m going to anyway, just to see what your opinions/advice are.

We had to be at the hospital by 8:30 with the jar. The act was done at 7:30. We didn’t know it had to get to the hospital as quickly as possible, so after filling the jar, I took the dog out for a 15-minute walk. Meanwhile, the jar was just sitting on the nightstand... our folder said room temperature. But I’ve read and heard from everyone that it should be kept a bit warm? On the way, I put it in my bag, and when we arrived, it had fallen over, so the contents were all over the jar, including the lid. Luckily, the jar was still tightly sealed.

Also, the weekend before that, he had parties all weekend and drank heavily, even the night before, so he only got a maximum of 4 hours of sleep. I was so mad! I told him not to do this. Could all this together have had an influence?

Thanks in advance for your responses!

Thank you so much for your lovely message!

He does indeed need to start living healthier, and he's already working on it, but he just can't seem to quit smoking. Sometimes I'm disappointed in him for not being willing to make that change.

The hospital said we could just bring it to room temperature, and that if it was in within an hour, it didn't matter how it went in.

He's never been sick, luckily, and doesn't take any medication either.

I'll look up that forum later. Thanks a lot anyway. Love!

We had to keep it at room temperature too. I was dressed to leave and my husband was too. He did his thing and put it in the pocket of his sweater, then put a jacket over it and left right away.

So I guess that's where it went wrong for us. Anyway, we have to submit a new sample in two weeks. Hopefully it'll be better then.

Hi, my boyfriend filled the bottle himself at the hospital. They have a little room there with PlayStations and stuff... Easy peasy, said my boyfriend
That way you know it wasn’t too cold or too warm or shaken while on the way..
Might be a good idea if you’re going again?

Yeah, they did tell us that was possible. But my husband didn't feel comfortable with it.

Thank you, ladies, for your advice! Unfortunately, my partner isn't keen on doing it at the hospital. Next time, I'll get it sorted out quickly. I'll let you know how it turns out, ladies!
