Clomid

Hi everyone,
I'm 29 now, and we've been off the pill since August.
At first glance, everything seemed normal: 1st cycle at 30 days, 2nd cycle after 6 weeks, 3rd cycle after 30 days...
Then it got very quiet... I haven't had a period for 18 weeks now, so no ovulation either.
No pregnancy. On Monday I went to the gynecologist and apparently I did ovulate in the meantime, so now I'm impatiently waiting for my period. After that, I'll start Clomid for the first time.
Have you all experienced this? I read a lot of side effects online, like increased risk of miscarriage, weight gain, mood swings...
How quickly did you get pregnant with Clomid? Had any side effects?
I find it all very exciting, especially since a sperm test still needs to be done in the meantime...
Can you reassure me a bit?
See you later ladies!

    Hi sister,
I'm starting my first round of Clomid tomorrow. It's not exactly the same as yours, but it's purely to shorten my cycle so I have more chances this year to get pregnant. I'm 26 and have been trying for a year and a half now, and now I can finally start with 50 mg of Clomid. I already had my ultrasound scheduled for cycle day 9 because days 10 and 11 fall on the weekend, so I'm curious.

I haven't read anything about miscarriages and think that if Clomid actually caused miscarriages, they wouldn't use this medication for women who really want to become pregnant. And on the internet, everything is often exaggerated or made to sound worse than it really is. My gynecologist also says I shouldn't believe all the stories online.

Side effects vary from person to person, as it says in the leaflet, and if you don't feel well, I read that you should stop taking it.
Now I do see a lot of women who get pregnant quickly with Clomid. I hope we two can be among them too.

    Hi Kelsi!!
It's so nice to hear from you.
I'm still in my first cycle with Clomid, but halfway through I had a dose increase. I took 100mg for 5 days. On Tuesday 18/04/2017 I had 2 larger eggs (10 and 11mm) but on Friday 21/04/2017 there was no improvement. Tomorrow I have another follicle scan...
These visits are nerve-wracking! Otherwise, I haven't had many side effects from Clomid, my weight is still fine, just a pressing sensation in my ovaries due to the stimulation.
How is it going for you/you guys?
    See you soon!!

    Hey sis,
I had 2 eggs with Clomid and both have ruptured. I'm now on the dreaded two-week wait, which feels endless. I'm at 13 DPO now and have been having pretty bad back pain, abdominal cramps, and very tender breasts for a few days, like muscle soreness. So I'm preparing for the worst and assuming Clomid didn't work out this cycle. It feels like I've been trying for so long, and sometimes I think my wish will never come true. I'm sure you can relate to that feeling.

Tomorrow I'll get a call from the gynecologist about my progesterone levels, so I'm curious. Most likely, I'll get my period on Thursday, and then we'll have to go through the hospital process all over again.

I'm rooting for you that your eggs grow. It's exhausting going in and out of the hospital.
Good luck! Keep me updated; it's nice to talk to someone about it.

    Hey Kelsi!
Ohhh I'm already crossing my fingers for you... yeah, I totally get you, my door is always open for you!
I'll definitely let you know tomorrow, I'm hoping for the best but not expecting too much... just so I don't get disappointed.
Will you let me know too?
Yeah, those hospital visits are really exhausting... hopefully it worked out for you guys!!
  5. kelsii65 #6

    Hey sisterke1988,
Good luck today! I'm rooting for you and hoping for positive news???
I got a call from the gynecologist today. My progesterone level was 50, which is good. I can now try on my own with Clomid for 4 months. If this month doesn't work out and the 5th cycle also doesn't result in pregnancy, I'll have to make an appointment again, and then I'll be followed through another full cycle.
So I'm curious, but unfortunately, I think this month is lost. I have such severe abdominal cramps that I'm sure I'll get my period!
So I'm preparing myself for the worst to avoid disappointment.
I have my NOD test tomorrow, but if I don't get my period by Sunday, I'm allowed to test because the doctor said the NOD test can sometimes be negative.
So I'm curious. I'm rooting for you and really hoping for good news for you. It's also nice that I can talk to someone who's going through the same thing.
    Greetings!

    Hey Kelsi!
Oh, I really hope things work out for you, hopefully your period comes back!!!
I have less good news, unfortunately no improvement. So I had two options: either try with injections or go for ovarian drilling. During a laparoscopy, they’ll prick the small cysts that are currently flooding my ovaries so my brain wakes up again. Usually, this helps restart the cycle naturally... I’m curious to see what happens.
It’s not a long-term solution, but at the same time, they’ll also check the accessibility to the ovaries, etc.
It has to be done before we can move on to insemination or IVF.
It’s scheduled for 18/05, so I really hope this will help us fulfill our wish for a child!
Hopefully, you’ll bring us better news... keep me posted on Sunday, I’m already super excited for you!
Yes, I also find it very nice!
    Greetings!

    Hey Sisterke1988

What rotten news, and that you as a woman also have to go through that to make your dream come true. I'm rooting for you that it really helps with the wish for a baby. I'm going to light a candle for you, keep me posted, I'd give you a big hug through this computer and tell you that everything will be okay for you too because it will definitely happen.

Yeah, I'll keep you posted.. only I myself think every time I feel those cramps, well, it's over, and I don't have the luck that it would suddenly hit now.

So I just expect my period too, I always secretly take my temperature so I know oh, period is coming, but since the Clomid, there's no normal structure in my temperature anymore.

When my period comes, it always drops to 36.9.

But now from day 27 it's 36.9, day 28 it's 36.8, day 29 today would be the expected day, 36.5. So I started googling, but it varies for everyone, and the temperature method apparently isn't reliable with Clomid, which is quite annoying for me because now I don't know anything yet And I'll just wait until Sunday, which is actually really hard. And since the gynecologist says I can't test earlier than then because it'll be negative. While normally on your expected day, if you're pregnant, you'd test positive, it seems to me.

Do you already have plans for what you're going to do today for King's Day, or do you just act like it's a normal day like I do?

    Greetings, kelsii65

    Hey Kelsi!
I live and work in Belgium, so it's a regular workday for us.
I'm crossing my fingers with you that they don't come, who knows, maybe you'll have even more luck than we did, and I truly wish that for you!
    Enjoy your day off!
    Many greetings!
  9. kelsii65 #10

    Hey sis,
Thanks so much, that's really sweet. Yes, I'm one day overdue today and decided to take a test this morning, but it was just negative. The gynecologist also told me to wait until Sunday to test, but I just couldn't resist. Now I feel disappointed, of course, so I'll just wait until Monday morning, no matter how hard that is.
Thanks again! I live in Mierlo and work in Eindhoven, but I'm on vacation this week.
Greetings and have a nice weekend in advance!
  10. kelsii65 #11

    Hey sis,

I just got my period. It was pretty intense and painful. I've now started the second round of Clomid and have already taken the last pill. According to my gynecologist, I'm allowed to start doing "stuff" every other day starting next week, and my ovulation should be around the same day as last month.

Only now I have to do it on my own without ultrasound monitoring. She says I'll probably develop two follicles. But I'm curious to see how it goes.

    How are you doing otherwise?
  11. Sisterke1988 started this #12

    Ohhh... That's so sad.
Don't you have to go for check-ups with the gynecologist anymore?
I'm really happy for you that you're responding to the Clomid after all, that's already a lot! Hopefully you'll have good news soon!
Everything's okay with me, we're just waiting until 18/05... there's not much we can do in the meantime. I really hope that the surgery will tell us a bit more and that it will also help us get pregnant in the next few months...
I'm trying to let go a bit in the meantime, you know? But that's not easy... I'm relieved that I don't have to go to the hospital every 4 or 5 days in the meantime, but still, somewhere deep down you can't just let go of that dream and that wish. I'm a bit 'scared' of the surgery but I'm also looking forward to it, it's a very mixed feeling.
I hope maybe too much that things will improve, but I don't expect any miracles. But I should still be allowed to hope a little, right?
Our parents still don't know that we're trying, but I'm considering telling them already... but maybe I'd better wait another month or 3? Maybe we'll have good news to share by then...
I wish you a nice day ahead! Keep me posted!!!
If you need me, you know where to find me!
    Lots of love...

    Hey Kelsi...
It's been a while since I heard from you, is everything okay there?
    Any positive news to share?
  13. kelsii65 #14

    Hey sis

Sorry I didn't write back sooner. I totally get that you're scared of the surgery, I think I understand really well and the inability to let go—I feel exactly the same, so I can imagine it perfectly!

I do have the luck of actually ovulating, but my cycle has been getting longer and longer, which is why I'm on Clomid. Now I've got two eggs, which I'm happy about, but the Clomid isn't exactly a walk in the park.

My headaches are unbearable, hot flashes, yikes, plus a lot of pain and nausea. But I'd do anything for that beautiful little miracle.

Maybe it helps to talk to someone, maybe your parents? I don't really have anyone in my circle; my mom sadly passed away and my dad lives abroad, and most of my family has passed away too, so I'm pretty much on my own, apart from my brother and sister. My ovulation day is tomorrow; I got a positive ovulation test today, so tonight I'll get to work with my boyfriend.

I have to try on my own for 4 cycles now. If I don't get pregnant this time, I'll have to go back to the doctor for checks next month, or if my cycle suddenly becomes 35 days again, that means the Clomid isn't working anymore.

But it's nice in a way because I'm just trying every other day from cycle day 11 to 18. The gap in between was day 16 according to my gynecologist last month, now it's day 17.

I'm really rooting for you that you get pregnant soon too, it's really draining.

I've been taking folic acid for almost 2 years now, and since I'm not going to the hospital anymore, I sometimes forget to take it because I'm trying not to think about it at all. Since I've been trying for so long, it's starting to take a toll on me.

    Keep me posted?

Sorry again for my late reply x

    Hey Kelsii!!!
Glad to hear from you, that's totally no problem at all, I understand it's busy.
Fingers crossed that you win with this cycle!!! I'm rooting for you both.
Yeah, I'm starting to feel more of a need to talk about it with my brother or mom, but then you get those tough questions every month and I'd rather avoid those...
I'll definitely let you know something next week!
    Good luck!!! xx

    Haaaaallo
Sorry for my late reply! Everything went super well, I did suffer a bit but it's okay, we survived... only now we're back on the waiting bench.
Now I first have to get my period again to start Clomid again, but last week there was nothing to detect yet. After discussing with my gynecologist, we decided to leave it until after our holiday (we're leaving from 4/07 - 15/07) and since I didn't have any eggs that developed last week, I thought to myself, I'll take a break from it. It really takes so much sometimes, I'm not fat but I have a little tummy and then some people are so dumb as to assume I'm pregnant. Yesterday again, two women came to congratulate me, and then I have a tough moment... I'm sure you understand me! This is so frustrating , I could really lose it with those people and say... I also had laparoscopy / hysteroscopy / ovarian drilling done last week just to get a regular cycle again... But yeah, life is weird sometimes!
The day after tomorrow is a big day for you, I'm curious. I'm trying to let go too, and I'm also having some alcohol (I'm not an alcoholic or anything, but just now and then a glass ), because it just feels more spontaneous to me. My boyfriend is looking forward to it too, and although he's doing his best, I feel a bit guilty. He has no problem at all, and I'm stuck with these long cycles, such a hateful feeling of powerlessness...
I hope you'll write back with a positive message! I wish it for you from the bottom of my heart!!!
    Have a nice day Kelsii..
    Greetings,

    Hi Kelsii,

Oh that's so sorry to hear you got your period!!! What did your gynae say? Do you have an appointment soon?
It is indeed really frustrating when people treat you like that, right? I try not to dwell on it too much, but it doesn't always go smoothly every day…
We have to stay positive Kelsii, we'll make it work! Keep your chin up, I'm already rooting for you guys, but don't lose hope, because as long as we keep believing, there's still a chance for pregnancy!
WTF? Yeah, that's indeed pretty harsh, I would have reacted like you too, right? Once you know someone has a desire for a child, you don't hammer that person into the ground, do you?! That's really tough for you! But now you at least know what you're dealing with… Unfortunately, the way she acted wasn't okay though!
Yeah, I know that feeling too, sometimes you really walk on eggshells, just because it's so nerve-wracking. I feel powerless as a woman, and I'm someone who doesn't like to give up control, and now that it's going so hard, it's enough to drive you crazy, so I definitely know those feelings of wanting to kick someone! You're definitely not alone!!!
Stay positive girl! I know it's not easy to be patient, but let's not jump the gun together and just take it month by month. Have you heard from your gynae yet? What did she say?
I'll definitely enjoy my vacation, I'm really looking forward to it, I've been so tired lately, probably from all the emotions, situations, and of course the bad sleep in the past days/weeks. I really hope it wasn't in vain for me.
Unfortunately, I haven't been able to figure out when my ovulation was yet, we try to have sex every 2 or 3 days, although that's sometimes not easy, but now I'm in the phase where I feel guilty if I have a glass of wine. On Sunday we had a communion celebration at our neighbors' and I had a little to drink, but since yesterday I've felt so bad about it, because I'm not very fertile anyway, and with the alcohol it definitely won't help… It's so weird, I don't know what's wrong with me…
I secretly hope that we'll both be pregnant (or at least close to it), it would be nice to keep writing to each other about our symptoms J
Take care, and if you have a dip, feel free to write to me! We'll get through it together.

    See you soon girl!
  17. kelsii65 #18

    Hey sis,

Super sweet of you to write. It’s nice that we understand each other so well; talking to you really makes me feel better, like someone actually gets it, and vice versa. You’re totally right about staying positive, but it’s oh so hard sometimes. Like this month, I just don’t care anymore. I know my egg is out somewhere this week, but I haven’t had sex at all because I just don’t feel like it.

Things aren’t going so well with my boyfriend either. The Clomid has made me pretty moody and grumpy. Since I’ve faced so many setbacks in my life, I’m experiencing this as a real heavy burden! I take it all out on him, blame him for everything, and just act nasty. Not exactly nice of me, but I guess I have to take it out on someone. But I realize this isn’t exactly great for your relationship, especially when you’ve been trying for almost 2 years. I’ve even been pregnant twice before, both times due to the pill. Unfortunately, both ended in miscarriages; otherwise, I’d be a mom of two kids by now, and that hurts. Now you want it so badly, but it’s not working. Then you hear things like, “Well, it’s your weight,” or “You’re thinking about it too much.” My weight—I’m on the heavier side—but I just can’t lose weight through healthy eating. Every time I promise myself, “I really have to do this now,” and then something else doesn’t work, and sure enough: I run away and eat my sadness away. And honestly, with a big bag of chips? Not good! Haha. But anyway, I’ve lost almost 5 kilos, so that’s something to be proud of. But then I think, “Oh, if I get pregnant, I’ll get fat anyway, so is all this for nothing?” Haha.

Big nonsense, of course. But enough about my frustrations. I still have 4 ovulation tests left. I’m curious which one will show my egg. Then I’ll see if I feel like having sex, yes or no, and if not, I’ll just take a break this month. It’s a shame about the Clomid cycle, but whatever. This is cycle 3. After this, I have to do 2 more cycles on my own, and then cycle 6 comes, and I see my gynecologist again. After that, I don’t know. I’m quite curious.

Enjoy your vacation. Maybe I should do that too, go away for a week/weekend/day with my boyfriend. It might do us good too!

The same goes for you: if you need someone to talk to, let me know. And you too, don’t give up, keep going. It would indeed be super nice if our dreams come true. And that we can chat about it together at the same time. I wish it so much for you!!! I’m rooting for you that you’ll be successful every 2-3 days and that you just get pregnant naturally and spontaneously. That would be really amazing.

Greetings and talk soon, x Kelsii
  18. Sisterke1988 started this #19

    Hey girl,
I know exactly what Clomid does to you. In one cycle, I took 50mg for 5 days and then 100mg for another 5 days. When I took that 100mg, I was super irritable, short-tempered, just not myself at all. It’s really weird what it does to you, right?
We don’t talk about it too much, but I do notice that we both want this so much. My boyfriend isn’t very good at expressing his feelings, but I can see he’s looking forward to it too. He doesn’t blame me, but it’s still a double-edged sword.
I’ve had a really rough week. I don’t know what’s wrong with me. I’m so tired, exhausted, my battery is completely drained. Sometimes I don’t see things getting better. I made mistakes at work, and I just feel frustrated and sad. I won’t say I need this, but I worry so much. I often think to myself, what if it doesn’t work out? Will we still be happy together? Sorry for complaining—we’ve only been trying for less than a year... I really wish you a lovely little sprout, because you deserve it!
PS: From what I can see on the photo, you’re definitely not fat! I’m 1m62 and weigh 68kg.

    Talk soon xx
  19. kelsii65 #20

    hey hey,

sorry that I'm replying a bit late, but I totally understand how you feel I wish I could make you feel better. I have to say, talking about it does help at least.

ahh that's so sweet of you to say, I wish the same for you! I'd love nothing more than for you to type that you're pregnant. I really hope it works out for you.

I'm 1.72m. On that photo I weighed +/- 96 kg, and about 4 weeks ago or longer I weighed 107 kg, my heaviest. Now I'm at approx +/- 103 kg, so I've lost some already. I'm very careful with my diet, but when I have a heavy week like that, I suddenly don't care about anything at all. This month I couldn't care less either; I got drunk twice just to not give a damn about anything, and it felt really good. I didn't spot my ovulation with my last ovulation tests, which I'm actually happy about. So now I'm on cycle day 30 today and I feel absolutely nothing—no sore breasts or anything like that, or a feeling that it's coming. Just a bit of muscle soreness in my lower back even though I haven't exercised. That's it. I also don't know when my period is going to start, which is actually quite frustrating. But anyway, I already picked up the withdrawal pills for round 4 today. I'm just waiting for my period to start so I can begin the next round. I also expect to get my period this week since it was the first round with Clomid my cycle was 29 days and the second round was 30 days, haha. So who knows, maybe the third round will be 31 days. That would be funny, shifting by one day every month, but anyway, I know I'm just going to get my period. I only had sex 3 times this month; I really didn't feel like it.

It's working out for you. Most couples get pregnant within a year, that's the highest percentage. I even expect that you'll get pregnant sooner than me, since I've been trying for almost 2 years now and still no success unfortunately. I'm really rooting for you. I'll let you know this week if the red devils show up. I expect them on Wednesday; if I still don't have my period by Friday, I'll take a test because then I'll be on cycle day 34. If this test is negative, I'll have to call the gynecologist because the Clidi probably isn't working anymore.

Maybe you'd like to keep in touch via email? I sometimes forget to check this page.

    Love, x Kels
