Miscarriage at 8 weeks

Melss
Hi everyone,
Yesterday I passed a clot.. the worst that could happen happened.. a miscarriage..
In the afternoon, an internal ultrasound confirmed that I had lost the baby and that some clots remained.
The gynecologist, who was very impersonal, made strange remarks and asked questions that really sit heavy in my stomach. Like: "Where do you feel so bad about now? Be glad you were pregnant even though it went wrong now." And: "Next time better."
Regarding the internal ultrasound device, she said: "Oh, that fits easily since you also got pregnant."
I felt very upset by this, because hello, I was pregnant and had only lost the baby less than 2 hours ago.
The intense grief broke me, and I feel so guilty even though I did everything I could to have a healthy pregnancy. Folic acid, quit smoking, healthy eating, etc..
Are there any ladies who can reassure me about processing all this?

Love, Mells

Hi Mells.. what a doctor, seriously.. it's already heavy enough.. I had a miscarriage a few weeks ago.. you can't really reassure someone.. it's something, how do I put it, a process that everyone processes in their own way.. I've talked a lot about it and sought distraction..
lots of strength with this loss

Yeah, that doctor Sandra was really intense.
Talking about it is indeed very important, otherwise you just carry it around..
And just like you said, everyone processes it in their own way, that's true too..
Hopefully we'll both have better news soon and a beating little heart...
    Love

Not normal at all with that doctor. I would have filed a complaint. I've been trying to talk about it with a few key people... and now I'm trying to pick up my own things again. The first few days I had no energy because I didn't feel like it and I blamed myself. I gave myself a kick in the pants. And now it's waiting for those bi-monthly issues and hopefully getting pregnant again soon... and I hope that for you too.

    Melss, really, so much strength!!!
What rotten comments from that doctor. Does he really have no sense at all?
After a miscarriage, you look for all sorts of reasons why. And probably there was just a genetic issue with the little one, and you really have no fault. But still, you look for reasons within yourself. I'm still doing this now, even after previous miscarriages.
It's brave of you to talk about it. I couldn't say a word about both miscarriages, and it really broke me. Only now, being pregnant for the third time, did I need to let it out. This forum really helped me.
I hope everything has completely resolved and that your body can recover quickly.
Take your time to process this. Lots of strength!

I totally recognize that guilt. I had a miscarriage in November at 9 weeks, after I’d accidentally gotten pregnant. I had done so many “bad” things when I didn’t know I was pregnant yet, that I blamed myself for the miscarriage. But several specialists told me that it’s usually a flaw in development, or sometimes chromosomal issues, that’s the cause. I’ve had female and male gynecologists multiple times, but I found that one woman really unpleasant—rough, unkind... whereas the men seemed to show more empathy, in my opinion. They also had more time and patience for me, I felt. No matter how early it is, in your mind it’s already a baby you’re losing, and that’s no small thing! Strength!

Super sweet of you guys, it really does me good to vent here and hear your experiences about it, even though it's not exactly what you want to hear....
Sandra : indeed, hopefully for both of us a beautiful pregnancy soon and lots of luck!
Haasje : today I lost a few clots and blood again. I feel weak, tired and nauseous, ugh.... it's such a beautiful dream that ends in a nightmare. I feel a little better now because I think; "what if it had continued and the baby had to live in a wheelchair for life" and I absolutely wouldn't wish that on a child! I hope for a speedy recovery.
Anoniem : indeed, I also had a woman and as you read, totally inhuman, ugh! I could have kicked her for her stupid remarks... and just like what you said about wrong things in the early stages.... I smoked before I knew I was pregnant and thought maybe that had something to do with it but I think indeed it was a genetic abnormality.

All in all, I hope you all still have/have beautiful pregnancies and that we can chat about a pregnancy instead of a miscarriage soon.

I find it really nice that you respond

That's good to hear this is already helping you.. pity that it's lasting so long for you..
I have to call the GP for an appointment. They could see a few weeks ago that I'd just get my period again on my normal cycle. A few days have passed now and still nothing.. my days are over.. so here it's still suspenseful whether there's something there or not..

Well, that's definitely exciting, Sandra... hopefully everything will be okay soon for you, phew..

How long does bleeding actually last after a miscarriage, and so on?
  9. haasje #10

I’ve never had a spontaneous miscarriage, so I don’t know what to expect from the bleeding. With me, they induced it with pills, and I bled for almost two months because apparently, some tissue was left behind, followed by a D&C. For the second miscarriage, I had a D&C right away and bled for about a week or so. After that, I took the pill for a month and then waited for a normal cycle.

I’ve also had better experiences with male gynecologists. I was really scared at first, until I ended up seeing a male doctor unexpectedly. He was much gentler and kinder. Since then, I only go to him.

That’s so awful that you had a miscarriage! It remains a loss regardless of how far along you were. I had a miscarriage myself last August at 9 weeks that lingered for a long time. It took at least a month for the bleeding and clots to stop. It turned out a piece of the gestational sac had remained, which is why there were clots and bleeding because my uterus was trying to flush it out on its own. I went to the hospital every week, and one gynecologist after another just said, "Ah, it's normal," until the last one used forceps to remove the last piece of the sac, and the "problem" was immediately resolved. Some doctors are quite blunt because it ends in miscarriage in 1 out of 10 pregnancies; I think it's just routine work for them or something like that.

I had one period after that, and now I'm pregnant again! I could also give it some space because, unfortunately, we don't have control over it, and I already have a beautiful son who's almost 2 running around. You did your best to take good care of yourself and your baby, and there are women who do everything wrong and still get a healthy baby. Unfortunately, it was nature. Take your time to process it because it is and remains a loss. And hopefully, a good pregnancy with a beautiful little miracle soon!

In my previous pregnancies, I really didn't do anything wrong.

And then, before I knew it, I drank alcohol during the holidays and at all the family celebrations afterwards. Then at 5 weeks I came down with the flu and had a high fever. Then at 8 weeks I fell down the stairs, really hard, from top to bottom. And I've never been this far along in a pregnancy like I am now.

I was able to accept the miscarriage at 6 weeks, even though the blow was huge and we had been trying to get pregnant for a year. Especially the long aftermath of the miscarriage was very difficult. I'm still struggling with the miscarriage at 11 weeks and catch myself still looking for reasons for it. I had just allowed myself to be happy about the pregnancy, and then suddenly it was over. So now I still don't dare to be happy.

    Greetings

Yeah, I catch myself doing that too sometimes, Haasje.. or thinking, oh, it’s probably going to go wrong again. Unfortunately, you can’t be carefree during pregnancy anymore.

Yeah, indeed, people who do everything God has forbidden, like using drugs (in the first weeks, almost everyone smokes or drinks, I smoked cigarettes too), but then just carry on with the full pregnancy because it's fine for them, I find so frustrating...
    But yeah.

Breathe in and breathe out.. hopefully next pregnancy will go better..

Hi sweetheart, strength with your loss. What pain you must be feeling, seriously. And about that doctor, so disrespectful, hey. I’d file a complaint because this just can’t be right. You’ve just lost something beautiful and then you’re treated like you’re a dog. No, I’m actually speechless about how you were treated. Pffff. Once again, strength, and file a complaint.

    Hey Guest,

Yeah, I'm going to file a complaint too. It's absolutely ridiculous that someone like her helps people... she even acted like I was stupid and didn't know anything about healthcare (I work in healthcare myself).

    I'm still furious with her!

    Love,
