Sex in the bath

Hi everyone,

My partner and I have been trying to get pregnant for a while now. I know it might sound like a weird question, but I got a positive ovulation test yesterday. Today we had sex in the bath. Can you actually get pregnant from having sex in the bath? I can't find any info on this anywhere.

Thanks!

It can happen, but a bath is absolutely detrimental to sperm quality. Sperm need to stay a bit cool to function optimally. So, before or during sex, I'd advise against taking a bath or a hot shower!

    Thanks, Nanie,
I was thinking something similar but wasn't sure.

And it washes out easily again, of course. Lying on your back for 15 minutes isn't easy when you want to keep everything inside! By the way, it's quite a hassle having sex in the bath; you can't really relax properly in there, can you?

We find sex in the bath a bit awkward, like... a bath is much smaller than a bed, so for us no sex in the bath, but of course yes in bed.

They advise against washing yourself right after sex if you want to get pregnant, so I think having sex in the bath would quickly wash away the sperm.

Yeah, I'm wondering that too! How do you keep it in? By the way, are you managing to keep it in well in bed, and do you do anything about it or something?

In principle, sperm only needs a few seconds to attach to the cervical mucus, and everything else is lost anyway. However, lying down for a little while could help a bit, especially if you're less fertile.

I didn't know it went so fast, Nannie! Do you do anything to prevent it from happening again, or does it not really matter because there are already enough sperm on their way?

A couple of pads, haha, but only when I'm up and about again.

You can of course always get pregnant from any kind of sex with penetration (even from pre-cum), but the chance does decrease due to the factors mentioned above. I don't really know much about that beyond what I learned in biology class, which focused on prevention:
