Hi lovely people,
I'm coming here after 6 years with my worries..
This morning I took a test because I was about a week or so late. And yes, positive! It wasn't very planned but we thought it was super nice.. I was actually planning to switch to another contraceptive because I was gaining a lot of weight from the pill but I had been using it very easily during intercourse.. "oh well, I skipped a month, nothing will happen and if it does, so what" I secretly think I kind of wanted it too..
But anyway, I was on antidepressants, plus last week I had a filling done at the dentist with anesthesia AND I drank a bit over the weekend for Pakjesavond and the day after.. Friday a few glasses of wine and shots, in total 5 or so, and Saturday a shot and 2 glasses of wine. I feel sooooo guilty and plus those other two things.. Who can reassure me?? I've read all the responses but still, still, still I feel so dumb and I'm scared!
Greetings, Hilos -

I'm a mom of 3 healthy kids. With my first pregnancy, I didn't find out I was pregnant until after 13 weeks. I smoked and drank quite a bit. I was also worried. My child is now 6 years old. She was super fast at walking, counting, and doing well at school. Even much faster than my other 2 kids with all sorts of things. Drinking during pregnancy isn't good, but maybe this is reassuring for some. -

I relate so much to all the stories, but I feel absolutely terrible. I've been off the pill for over nine months and had so many attempts with my boyfriend to get pregnant, but nothing worked. My vacation came around and I ended up drinking a lot of alcohol. Because I had been living so healthily before that, doing everything to conceive, and nothing helped unfortunately. After my vacation, or maybe during it, I started feeling really weird and awful. What turned out... I'm pregnant!! I feel so guilty and awful, but all that time I was consciously trying to be healthy, eating well, and only drinking on weekends. And now, just when I drank a lot, I'm suddenly pregnant!! I'm so scared, of course I stopped immediately, but I was already two weeks pregnant. Going to the hospital tomorrow. But I'm really scared and feel absolutely awful!! -

I understand you're worried. But please believe me, I was also about that many weeks pregnant with my first during New Year's and I drank almost two bottles of champagne by myself. This little one is doing great, and at every check-up they say he's healthy. With my first son, I also drank when I didn't know yet. I only found out I was pregnant at 7 weeks. Maybe I shouldn't have drunk so much back then, but still. For the first 12 weeks, the baby has a kind of yolk sac where it gets its nutrition from; only after those 12 weeks does it start getting nutrition from the placenta. So try to stay calm and not worry too much. Many women drink during the early stages of pregnancy because they don't know they're pregnant yet. -

When I first tried to get pregnant, I quit smoking and drinking along with stopping the pill. It took a year to get pregnant, so I went a year and 9 months without drinking anything alcoholic. My second pregnancy was unplanned, so I drank at the beginning and continued smoking throughout the whole pregnancy. Looking back, I really felt bad about that. Now, for the third time, I'm pregnant. Since stopping the pill, I only drank during my periods. Turns out my last period was actually implantation bleeding!! So again, I had been drinking
The only way to be sure you're not drinking anything in the early stages is to quit everything as soon as you stop the pill. But I don't feel guilty now because I accidentally had a drink anyway

My mom didn't know she was pregnant with me for the first three months and happily kept drinking and smoking.
She stopped abruptly once she found out.
I'm completely healthy. I rarely get sick and don't have any weird issues.
Enjoy your pregnancy!
I had stopped drinking because I wanted to get pregnant. But after six months I was sick of waiting, and on top of that, the unnecessary torment at parties when I could have just let loose for a bit. So I did drink occasionally on weekends afterwards.
During the vacation when our little one was conceived, I also drank a lot and celebrated. But I ended up pregnant anyway, and for now, the sonographer says everything looks good. Both the doctor and the midwife said that the alcohol back then shouldn't have done any harm.
No worries

Thanks Katie for your topic.
I was supposed to get my period this weekend, but I didn't.
Now it turns out I'm pregnant, having stopped contraception just 1 month ago.
I still had 3 glasses of wine last Tuesday with my friend, which makes me unable to sleep now because I'm so worried.
Luckily, I read a lot of responses here that help me! ????

Hi everyone,
I’m googling but can’t find any real clarity anywhere. I think I just need to talk about it because it keeps wandering through my head. I had no idea I was pregnant until week 5 and drank a lot—both beer and wine. In the very beginning, I even had strong alcohol. One day before the test, I had 3 bottles of wine, so that was at 5 weeks. I did feel weak, but the doctor thought I had a stomach bug, so I had no suspicion myself either. I just got my period a bit early, but it was there. I’m also a heavy smoker. I went for an ultrasound and the midwife said it could be very harmful and that I need to take folic acid. Still, I thought the baby was very small, 4.7mm total. Besides that, I do have symptoms like nausea and no appetite. Because I thought I had a stomach bug, I forced myself not to eat for a while. I’ve lost 6-8 kilos by now. I really wonder if the baby will be born healthy, especially since I have asthma myself. I also read about no blood connection, but if someone drank that much alcohol, isn’t that just super bad, also regarding the reserves from which it should grow? I’m so nervous about whether it will be healthy... I’m also only 20 and scared if the child is handicapped or something similar, I’ll have a harder time taking responsibility. Does anyone have advice please? I’ve been taking Mama pills since the ultrasound. I’m still not quite managing to quit smoking... but I plan to. It doesn’t make me feel better. -

If you want to get pregnant, you shouldn't drink. -

Olivia Anna, you say that you find tact appropriate in this forum and don't want people to feel guilty, but then you say that abortion is murder... I don't agree with that. When you have an abortion in a very early stage, the baby is not yet alive (no beating heart, etc.), so I don't consider it murder. I also think it's mean towards people who already feel guilty and really bad about an abortion to make them feel even more guilty. -

Hi, I'm now 3-4 weeks pregnant.
I've had quite a bit of alcohol.
Have I already caused any damage? -

Hi,
I'm reading all this and I'm dealing with a huge sense of guilt myself. Our first pregnancy completely caught us off guard. I got pregnant, by the way, from my husband, while we were on a ski trip, where Apresski was in full swing—7 days of partying, beer, and cigarettes. About 4 weeks later, we found out I was pregnant, and I immediately stopped drinking any alcohol and quit smoking. After a 38-week pregnancy, we had a healthy daughter. Her development was normal, and she's now in HAVO3. Until last September, when epilepsy was suddenly diagnosed in her. GGE, Generalized Genetic Epilepsy. But it's not in our families, so I can only think of one cause: the beginning of this pregnancy!!!! I have such a massive sense of guilt..... -

Here I also went hard for 3 days before my test to get rid of the idea of shit again but nothing, but well.
Felt incredibly guilty but the obstetrician said it can't do any harm as long as you don't do it now!
There are so many women who don't know.
I also drank a lot of cola but can't even smell it now and I'm only 8 weeks pregnant, already seen a beating heart twice, due date is November 8th for our first baby after a few miscarriages and tests.
Have a nice Easter, girls x -

Olivia, I can't relate to that either. With my miscarriages, I had to induce the abortion using pills. How can you do something like that to yourself and a child? I already found it terrible, even though it wasn't going well for me and the baby had already passed away. Pff, I'll never understand people who choose abortion, but hey, everyone has their own reasons. -

Hi Katie,
I'm really curious how things are going with your baby??
I'm extremely worried myself. Suddenly my period stopped, I just took a test and yes, I'm pregnant! While we weren't trying at all. But the biggest issue is that I've been partying a lot over the past 2 weeks and drinking a lot overall. I find this terrible. Because I would never have done that if I had even the slightest doubt. I'm so afraid that I've caused harm to the little one. Which could manifest in behavioral problems or who knows what. I don't know what to do right now.
I'd love to hear how things went for you guys!
Best wishes! -

Any other ladies who worried because they drank a lot during the early stages of pregnancy without knowing they were pregnant? I'd love to hear how it all turned out for you! Thanks! -

(All the question marks were emotional from my own phone. But it doesn't seem to display them.)
