Getting pregnant after anorexia

SssslangetjeGuest ·
I'm looking for answers. I hope I can find them here.

I developed anorexia when I was 16. Really stupid, but I'm recovering now. I've gained 12 kilos since the lowest point and have a lovely boyfriend with whom I've been able to get my life back on track.

We do think about kids from time to time, but I haven't had a period in a year and a half. I'm really scared that I'll never be able to have children. Are there more ladies here who know this? What can I do to make sure I start having periods again.

    Wow, that's intense...
I assume you're (or were) under the care of a therapist for this? Can't he/she tell you how it's going?

    Good luck!

Hi Lexy, no, she doesn't know much about that. She's a psychologist, not a doctor.

And the anorexia forums (yeah, there are some... where we give each other tips on how to vomit best), I stay miles away from those nowadays

    hey Sssslangetje
I would just call or make an appointment with a gynecologist. They'll be able to answer questions like this best.
They'll probably also tell you to come in for an internal check-up.
It could also be that your hormone levels are completely off due to your past anorexia.
And that you might need to take some hormones for a while.
    Good luck
    best wishes, Liena

    Hi Liena

I’m actually quite scared of that. I used to lie a lot to the doctor, and I’m afraid he won’t believe me anymore. I think I just need to push through it and go see him again. I’m already feeling really heavy-hearted about it.

I wouldn't be too scared about it.
I also had anorexia for 3 years, including hospitalizations and everything that comes with it. I've been on the pill since I was 13 and had no plans for kids at all. Still, my partner and I got pregnant while I was still on the pill. I didn't even realize my period had returned, and even with the pill, I'm now 24 weeks pregnant with our little girl. So you see, miracles still happen. Don't be afraid, give your body some time to recover, and it'll surely work out!

    Hi sssslangetje,

My niece also had anorexia at a young age and now has a perfectly healthy daughter.
Great job that you want to stay far away from those sites!!

    Keep it up,
    Greetings dani

    little snake.
the doctors also understand why you've lied a lot. especially about your anorexia.
but you can be super proud that you're over it.
otherwise you could just ask for a different doctor. you're not obliged to see the doctor you always had.
chin up girl. you're the strongest, you've already proven that, now with the doctors!
    greetings Liena
