that's not the whole point.. that I mind being called a bad mother. but it's now just about how bad smoking is or isn't during pregnancy. I'm working on it.

I know by now that it's bad etc but to quit cold turkey is really hard and I need help with this.

so anyone tips or advice? instead of telling me how bad it is (this is clear)

By the way, I'm now pregnant with my second child and I still don't smoke. Whenever I get the urge for a cigarette, I just have to think about the consequences and picture how that baby would suffocate, and then the craving disappears on its own. I also avoid places where people smoke to keep from being tempted. I don't want to do this to my baby. Come on, ladies, can't you just hold out for 9 months for your baby's health? What's 9 months of quitting for your child? When you think about how you're poisoning your baby with your cigarette... I used to smoke a pack a day, so I know what it's like to smoke, but I find my children much more important than a cigarette. At least I can look back on my pregnancies without guilt, and I can say with a relieved heart that my children at least got oxygen while they were in my womb. Greetings, Sonja

again, I know how bad it is. I'm also trying to quit.

    next question.........

Are there also things I absolutely must not eat and/or drink?

Yes, I have some tips for you. Look up online what this does to your baby, and hopefully that motivates you enough to stop. I’m so happy for you and your baby to hear that you realize how bad it is and that you’re willing to quit. Great job, girl! Your child will be grateful to you later. Another tip: go see your GP and have them help you find a way to quit. The most important tip for me was thinking about how you make your baby happy by not smoking, and imagining how your baby would choke if you did smoke. Visualizing that really helped me a lot. Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy and with your baby. You’ve got this—you can do it! Every mom has the motivation to quit for her child. Believe in yourself, and remember what you’re doing it all for. Best wishes, Sonja.

That's so nice to hear that you're going to stop. Your child can be very proud of you. And as for what else is better not to do during pregnancy, well, be careful with cola and if possible, drink water regularly. Eating lots of fruit is good for your baby's immunity, which strengthens their immune system. And watch out with American fries! Enjoy this special time. Greetings, Linda.

Moderate with coffee if you drink it, because it can make the baby restless. Tea is good, though, because it’s basically water, and water is good. If you don’t like water, you can also drink tea.
    Greetings, Linda

Sandra, I really think it's awesome that you want to quit! That shows you're willing to take responsibility!
I've never smoked, so I have no experience with quitting myself.
I think you could write a message on the box or packet where you keep your cigarettes, like 'think about your baby' or something else that motivates you not to smoke. If you still crave a cigarette, maybe eat something? Or go to the doctor for help? You know what you're doing this for!
Once again, I think it's great that you're working on quitting!

As for the other products: No raw or undercooked products. (So even your hard-boiled eggs) No raw milk cheese (not common in the Netherlands, often written as 'au lait cru'. No alcohol. Try to clean vegetables/fruit well due to toxoplasmosis (found in cat feces, so you shouldn't clean the litter box or garden).

Hope this helps you a bit!
I really want to encourage you and wish you success! Try to quit as soon as possible (reducing is a way your addiction is maintained unconsciously and increases the chance of relapse).
Try to find a way to find smoking disgusting!
    Good luck!

oh that's fantastic girl that you want to quit and you're doing your best, super to hear. I might have come across a bit harsh, but I really only did that in the best interest of your baby. I'd definitely go see your GP, they can help you with quitting, and try to keep in mind what you're doing it for. Maybe help yourself with some gum or something, then you're busy. You'll make it, girl, the will is there. It's very good that you're thinking about your baby. Good luck with everything, greetings, Krista

One more tip: it helps if you see the cigarette as an enemy—like an enemy that puts your baby in danger and makes them sick. If you look at the cigarette that way, it really helps to quit. And enjoy sweets if you love them—a lollipop or chocolate. I don’t know if you like those, but I think it already helps a lot if you treat yourself, especially now that you’re trying to quit smoking. You’re allowed to spoil yourself a bit instead of smoking. Eat chocolate or other sweet treats. It’s fine—you’re pregnant, and remember, nothing is as bad or worse than smoking. So enjoy your sweets; they don’t harm your baby. Spoil yourself—you deserve it, especially since you’re quitting for your baby. Be kind to yourself; it helps with the process of quitting. And as has been mentioned so often here, go see your doctor and let them help you quit for your baby. Buy a book about quitting smoking—it might help too. Good luck and lots of strength, Linda.

Had the first ultrasound yesterday at the hospital.

Unfortunately, they had to tell us that the heart wasn't right.

Oh Sandra. Wishing you lots of strength!

Oh, that's really tough to hear. I wish you and your partner lots of strength during this time.

I always try to avoid anything that might potentially be harmful to your child.

Even though you know it's often not your fault if you get a miscarriage, you still end up looking for reasons within yourself. My first pregnancy unfortunately ended in a miscarriage. I had been painting during that time, as we had just moved into a new house. I felt incredibly guilty about this for a long time. I don't smoke myself, but I believe you should do everything you can for a healthy baby.
  17. kim #57

Oh sorry, I just saw your last message. Strength with processing this great grief.
  18. Marion #58

Oh Sandra.. that's awful. Wishing you lots of strength in the coming days.. don't let anyone get to you, everything will be okay, really! Big hug to you both.
  19. SandraHGV #59

Thank you so much We're hoping to get another chance soon.
  20. Marion #60

Sandra, usually after a miscarriage, you get pregnant again quickly. It was the same for me... you just need to be ready for it yourself. To have a place to put your love again. But once you're pregnant again, all the joy comes back, I promise!
