What was cut/torn more than I thought..

Hi, I have a bit of a weird question maybe.. I gave birth 2 weeks ago to a pretty big baby (almost 5 kilos) and after the birth they told me: we had to cut you a bit otherwise it wouldn't fit, but the stitches will dissolve on their own, and nothing else was said.. They spent half an hour stitching me up.. (if someone tells me: we had to cut you a bit, I assume that's not a lot) Well, it's been 2 weeks now and I thought yesterday I'd better take a look with a mirror to see how it looks now, and I was terrified.. So I was cut all the way to my butt and also to the side.. I do (still now) have a lot of pain, I can only sit again for a few days, and when I go to the toilet it feels like I'm giving birth again.. But that they had cut me so badly I didn't expect, I thought they would have told me if it was that bad.. Well, I was wondering how long it takes before this is completely healed (and that it will also look somewhat normal again) And what if I get pregnant again and have to give birth, will it tear or need to be cut as badly again? I only read scary stories online about women who still had pain after a year.. Greetings

I think you should really give this about 6 weeks. If it starts hurting or getting inflamed again, you should go back to the obstetrician. Otherwise, mention it at your postpartum check-up that you didn't find it satisfactory that so little attention was paid to explaining how the tear and its healing process work—it does seem strange that they didn't really do that. But in any case, call when you think something's wrong or if you want to know something about your tear. You don't want the tear not to heal properly or for things to turn out differently than you expected.
    Get well soon!

I was also cut, but in the hospital, over the 2 days I stayed, I was checked for stitches 5 times!
Now I have to say, I didn't have much trouble with it despite being cut further than I initially thought.

2 weeks later, the stitches were removed, but I was told there were still a few left that would fall out on their own.
I've since removed 4 of them myself.

Don't rely too much on others' "horror" stories!! The good experiences are never told because they're not exciting enough, I guess..
    Ask the "Experts" if needed.
My sister is a nurse and also gave 6 weeks for recovery!

You'll indeed be busy with it for a couple of weeks.
With my first, I was quite attached (I don't remember how much), and now I have 4 internal stitches that dissolve on their own.
I don't have any issues with them, but with the first one, it took about 3 weeks before I didn't feel it as much anymore.
Just get it checked extra carefully and don't be afraid of having another baby; your body will take care of everything just fine!!

    Strength and greetings,
    Dani

Thanks for your replies. I have a check-up in 3 weeks, so I can ask everything then. I do know now that I was cut and then tore further anyway. I checked again yesterday to see if it was healing better, but now I noticed that one inner lip is nowhere to be seen; it's just gone. Is that normal? Greetings

Hi Anoniem, I had a tear and the stitching took about half an hour. I was "moderately" torn and the stitches were supposed to dissolve naturally... And that's what happened.
I do know that I had a lot of pain there in the first 2 weeks, and it really took 2 or 3 weeks before I felt a difference and it finally started to get better. They checked me maybe 2 or 3 times in total, not very often... It really needs time. I'm now 7 weeks further along and occasionally I still feel something down there when I need to go to the toilet, but it's not painful or bothersome, I think. Drinking lots of water, eating fruit, and moving (walking) helps with healing.

    Good luck!

    Hi,
how are you and the little one doing now?
I read your story and I went through the exact same thing: the midwife said it was just a small cut!
Until I took a mirror and looked down: completely torn up to just below my anus...mmmmh not exactly fun!
(My daughter was 4kg and 53cm) and she came via the vacuum pump.

I went to another midwife for a 'second opinion'.
She told me that I had received a small cut that had fully progressed...
My daughter is now 1 year old and everything has healed well, but I have to say that the big scar sometimes really gets in the way (when wearing strings, having sex, cycling). I think that annoying pulling sensation will never go away

    Best regards

hi everyone, all these scary stories. I tore during my first birth too and have to say I never had any issues with it—no pain, no tingling sensation, nothing. All the stitches healed on their own. Now I hope to have the same experience with my next birth because it sounds really painful based on what you're all saying.

    greetings

I gave birth on Saturday and also got stitched up, apparently a couple of cm.
And I have to say, I don't feel anything from it (yet) at all. Sometimes when I sit I feel some pressure, but no pain. I hope it stays like that, because I can imagine it's not exactly pleasant!
They come to check it here every day, so it's already been three times.
My stitches should dissolve on their own, but it's still too early to say if that's really going to happen.

I was also episiotomized.. a couple of cm.. but since I had a serious complication where a piece of placenta remained stuck at the bottom of the uterus, the OB-GYN removed it by hand (he asked if he could, otherwise it would have been surgery and I didn't want that since my girl was only a few hours old ) and because he was able to do this, my tear reopened to about 6 cm.. luckily the episiotomy was angled and tore further that way I had a lot of bruising at the bottom afterwards and not so much pain from the stitches after about 5 days most of them had already fallen out I can still feel that bruising now after 10 months when I'm on the bike, which they said is fairly normal; it's an area that doesn't heal from bruising so easily unfortunately but when I look back I once had a blow to the pubic bone and even though that was more than 7 years ago, I can still feel that spot when my daughter stands on me or something... so I fear I'll always have some discomfort here

I also had a little cut, about 2 cm, and it healed up really well, thank goodness.
    Kind regards

Omg I don't want a baby anymore I think because everything is presented as more beautiful than it really is e...
During pregnancy they say enough but when you've given birth... you can't wait for the placenta you lie there with your legs open....
Afterwards at home with a torn pussy and anus and a crying baby who wants attention every three hours pff no thanks y

    Really? e:-)
After all the research, I don't really feel like having kids either...
I've never really had a desire for children. In recent years it started, but mostly because family and friends kept asking all the time, and then for later, etc...
Then you start thinking, e, but indeed, I never wanted kids because I've always been realistic.
Always on leave when the season is super expensive and busy! Never sleeping in again, body maybe not staying tight anymore :-(
Maybe everything torn and cut... giving birth!!! 9 months pregnant so no drinking and looking like a pig...
Things like mucus plug and placenta and after birth still wearing pads for a long time because everything is coming out!
At least 6 weeks no sex!!! After that, I think you also can't feel sexy anymore?
And I work in a nursing home and when I see how many elderly people are really lonely and still have kids?
So no, all nice but mainly leave it to others, let me just enjoy life with my boyfriend :-)

hiho, you guys are so honest :-)
  14. Anonymous #15

    Oh my, anonymous...
That's quite negative... It's a personal choice, of course, but you get a lot in return. Children aren't just a disadvantage or problem like you describe; otherwise, so many women wouldn't choose to have a child. And not everyone has to tear or needs an episiotomy.

Hi anon, I just wanted to chime in on your post about not feeling sexy anymore—I had to laugh a bit My body has actually become even more beautiful than before I had my kids. My breasts are much fuller and my butt has gotten a nice, full shape. All women always compliment me on my figure; they think I've become beautiful in all the right places. And they're amazed at how toned my butt and figure still are after 2 kids. My husband also had no trouble with my body at all, neither now nor during my pregnancy. And regarding that oversleeping thing you mentioned: you only have that for the first 3 months, and then they sleep through the night. And when they're toddlers, like my girls are now, they already sleep in nicely until 10 or 11 am. What you're describing is only the b

The early days are tough, but then they start sleeping longer stretches.
My girls wake up, I turn on the TV or let them play on their tablets, and my husband and I get to sleep in a bit more.
I was never episiotomized or torn.
My second birth was even so fast that I barely realized I was having contractions, pushed twice, and she was there.
I think you've just seen too many movies.
I have two best friends for life who love me unconditionally, and I love them.
Who can be a better friend than your own daughter?
Who understands you better than your own children?
You get so much love from your children that the world around you almost doesn't matter anymore.
There's no feeling more beautiful and strong than that
Friends can deceive you, make fun of you behind your back,
but your daughters won't; they'll always love you and support you.
I just wanted to share all this with you.
    Best, Madelene

Beautifully said/written, Madelene!!! I can't wait at all anymore to meet my little girl in 7 weeks :-) :-)
  18. Madelene #19

Thank you so much, Chantie, for your compliment
    I really appreciate that.
That's already close in 7 weeks.
It's exciting. Soon you'll have your princess in your arms
and she'll become your friend for life.
You'll experience that nothing ever feels as strong with anyone as the bond you'll share with your daughter
Wishing you lots of love and happiness with your baby.
    Greetings, Madelene

I stumbled upon this site by chance. What a wide range of reactions here! I’m also not keen on having kids; I’m 30 now and still have no desire to bring a little human into the world. Everyone does what they want, right? Exactly! Is anyone really obliged to have children??? Parents and in-laws don’t really like it either, but it’s my choice, my body, and my life, and I’d like to keep my freedom and life as it is now :-) I do like seeing kids, but mainly other people’s, and I want to be able to hand them back neatly in the evening :-) I’m more into animals; you get so much love from them, they’re mega cute, and require less work and money than a child. It’s just a pity they die so early :-( And Madelene, your reaction about having seen too many movies isn’t really true because, honestly, movies always portray it as all roses and moonlight. If you saw a lot of movies, you’d want to start having kids right away ;-).
