Reflux of cramps

Hi, my daughter is 8 weeks old now and has been vomiting and having colic for quite a while. Both during breastfeeding (which I stopped 2 weeks ago) and now with bottle feeding. We've been to the osteopath 3 times and to the pediatrician 2 times. Last time, the doctor suggested using Nutrilon Pepti Syneo (for cow's milk allergy) because she suspects the reflux is related to that. We're also thickening this formula with Nutricia. But she's still vomiting and still has colic. She also has a really hard time having a bowel movement. At night it's better, but in the morning she wakes up crying and squirming in her crib. Does anyone have any advice? Thanks in advance!

We followed the pediatrician's advice and used thickened formula. But we got the impression that it was actually worse for his tummy. So we thickened the formula with Olvarit Rice Flakes Vanilla, 2 scoops per bottle. That was better for his tummy and it did thicken the formula, so less came back up.

We also used Nutrilon Omneo formula, which is also good for tummy troubles. And our best solution for reflux, which really helped us, was omeprazole. Of course, medication should only be a last resort, but for us it brought us a happy little boy. Omeprazole doesn't stop the milk from coming back up, but it does help heal the esophagus so it doesn't hurt.

Our little boy is now 7 months old and no longer takes omeprazole or rice flakes; he's past that stage.

Hope this helps you a bit. Greetings

Oh, we also went to the osteopath, by the way. But after 3 sessions, we didn't see any improvement, and he even said that it wouldn't make sense anymore.

    Hi An,

Thanks for the tips. The pediatrician did indeed suggest prescribing omeprazole if things don't improve, so I'm curious to see if that will help. The colic isn't necessarily worse with the formula; it's just stayed the same. I just got the tip from the midwife to try hepar water for the difficult bowel movements, since that can also cause colic. It's good to hear that it went much better for you! Hopefully it will too soon here

Hepar water definitely helps! It's very laxative. But unfortunately, you shouldn't use it too often because it's not good for their kidneys.
But occasionally giving a bottle shouldn't do any harm.

    Good luck!
