Does a second birth really go faster than the first?

Dear ladies,

We've known for a week now that I'm pregnant with baby number 2! Super happy, of course! But now I'm reading everywhere that a second birth is faster than the first. My first birth took less than 5.5 hours... And if I can really expect the second one to be faster, I'll definitely stay at home...

My question: how long did your second births take?

I had contractions around 11 PM and gave birth around 8 AM, and with the first contraction around 8 PM, I gave birth the next day at 3 PM.

It usually goes a bit faster. That was the case for me.
But it's definitely not always like that. A friend of mine had her first baby within 5 hours. She just popped it out.
While with the second one, she had a really tough labor. She was busy for 12 hours with that one.

I also gave birth within 5.5 hours for the first time by chance. And my midwife said the second time will go faster and that I won't get an epidural anyway. We'll see.

    Congratulations on your pregnancy!

My first birth took about 8 hours. My second one was over in 4 hours.

With the first, I spent a long time on the last 2 cm, but with the second, I went from 5 cm to fully dilated in an hour.

For me, yes, and what a world of difference hahaha first son: 30 hours, second son: 3 hours and 5 minutes

Thank you so much, I was admitted to the hospital with my daughter due to streptococcus A bacteria in my blood. They didn't tell us anything about it back then. But I can keep in the back of my mind that this time, if everything goes well (which we're hoping for), it might go faster. I've now signed up with a different midwife due to our move, since my old midwife isn't in this area. And I'll definitely mention that my daughter's birth went very quickly.

The first birth took 48 hours from my water breaking until the baby was born, with 12 hours of contractions. The second birth took 5 hours from my water breaking until the baby was born, with 45 minutes of contractions...
So this was definitely true here...

The first one took exactly 5 hours and 4 minutes (water broke at 00:00, and she was born at 05:04, had 35 minutes of pushing).
The second one ended in an emergency C-section. The labor lasted 7 hours and 1 minute. (Water broke at 12:00, pushing started at 18:00, and the baby boy's heart rate kept dropping... taken to the operating room at 18:30 and he was born at 19:01).
Now I'm early in my third pregnancy. Can't wait!

My daughter took about 3 hours, and my son just 1 hour... With him, I didn't even realize I was 8 cm dilated haha, it just felt like pressure down there, nothing else. I'm curious how this third birth will go, in the last few weeks.

    1st labor lasted 4 hours...
    2nd labor lasted 6.5 hours...
    3rd labor lasted 1.5 hours...
4th labor lasted 35 hours... (ended in emergency C-section)

I’ve had 3 births, and the first was still the fastest. It was over in an hour and a half. The second took about 4 hours, and the youngest about 5. So no pattern to draw from my experience.

    I've had 3 births..

    1st, 2 hours
    2nd, 4 hours
    3rd, 19 hours

The first one lasted 5 hours, and the second one started with a bit of rumbling in my belly all day, not really painful contractions. In the end, my bed was wet from my water breaking, and within 49 minutes I gave birth. It was really intense, I can tell you. Faster, but not less painful!

1st (16 years ago) labor lasted 9 hours
2nd (12 years ago) labor lasted 3 hours
3rd (2 years ago) labor lasted 8 hours (switched to emergency C-section because her heart rate dropped)

My first one was also gone within 5.5 hours from the first contractions. And my second one, born last June, was gone within 40 minutes from when my water broke. So if your first one was fast, you should head to the hospital in time.

My first labor lasted 11 hours, my second 7, and the third was somewhere in between; 9.5 hours.

    1st in 3 hours
    2nd in 4 hours
Both seem like a really good deal, I think so.

    1st: 25 hours
    2nd: 9 hours
    3rd: 3 hours
Now expecting the 4th and curious how long this birth will take
