Friend with FAP, any experiences?

Hi everyone,

I stopped the pill on April 29th because my partner and I really want to fulfill our wish for a child. This decision didn't come lightly, as my partner has FAP syndrome. Since this is a genetic disorder, there's a 50% chance our children could inherit it too. We've thought long and hard about our desire for children and whether and how we want to try for one. Nowadays, with so many options for testing and planning in the medical field, we've really had to figure out what we want to do in this regard.

I'm curious if there are other women in a similar situation. Not to hear what I should or shouldn't do, but to share experiences and thoughts

    Hi there,
Maybe this post is quite old, but we had the same dilemma as you. My child also has FAP, and unfortunately, there aren’t many experiences shared online about it.
We decided to go ahead and have a child. He’s now 6 years old, and we’ve been considering whether our little boy has it too, but they don’t want to test him yet since he needs to be 10 to 12 years old for that. In the meantime, we’ve gone through quite a few surgeries. I was curious how things are going for you now? Since there’s so little information about it here, it would be nice to share some experiences.
    Greetings, Kaatje

    Hey Kaatje,
Super nice that you replied! Meanwhile, we have a little boy running around here who's over 20 months old, and regarding his check-ups, we're hearing the same thing. It usually doesn't happen until around 12 years old. However, we've arranged with the UMCG that our little one will have a phone intake so we can ask some questions about the process. We're now also 'busy' with a second one, so the same will apply there.
What surgeries has your husband already had? And is he still waiting for another surgery?
You can also send me a private message! Indeed, it's super nice to share experiences. We don't know anyone else with this condition. My husband is also the first and only in his family, as far as we know at least.

    Hi!
Finally found some "peers." I have FAP myself. I had surgery on my large intestine in 2016. Our son was born in 2019.
In the meantime, I've completed a year of chemotherapy because desmoid tumors were found in my abdomen.
Now, we're discussing our desire for more children with the hospital and looking for the best and most sensible choice.
