Forum From toddler to preschooler

The little one can't keep themselves busy.

Hi ladies. I'm at a loss right now, maybe you have some tips! I have a son who is 4 years old. But he just can't concentrate on his toys when we're, for example, doing puzzles. So I sit down with him and we do the first 2 minutes of a puzzle, but after that I'm the only one left there doing it. As a result, he doesn't do well with puzzles. When we're coloring, it's the same as with the puzzles: after 2 minutes, I'm back to being alone. Playing with cars is no problem; we can sit with that for an hour, but with those educational things, he loses concentration immediately, which means he doesn't know them. A year ago he could still name the colors, and suddenly that's gone. He calls everything yellow. I've tried everything, but that concentration or interest just doesn't come... how can I encourage this? At school, they're also pushing him hard, and it makes me so angry. It feels like they're holding my child back. He is a very active and cheerful toddler, but that interest in everything is missing. Can someone help me? Or maybe someone is in the same situation or was?

Sorry, I don't have a preschooler yet, but I think it's normal for kids that age to get distracted quickly. I think you can make some learning out of the things he does like, like the cars. How many cars are there? Point to the red car. Or vroom vroom, here comes the blue truck. He probably knows the colors already; it could also be a game for him to call everything yellow and see how you react. Maybe this article will reassure you a bit too; apparently, there are more people who worry about their preschoolers' concentration span. It's a sobering story.

Thank you so much!! I was also referred to a child psychologist by my school because of his busy behavior and lack of concentration, but you know. I still need to go back.
