We're considering getting a cargo bike, but there are so many factors to consider! Who has experience with a cargo bike and could help me make a more informed decision? Is it better to buy new or second-hand, a Babboe or a Fietsfabriek, or a lesser-known brand for less money?

Babboe is indeed the gold standard. Don't hesitate. A new cargo bike comes with a warranty and is often easier than an old clunker from a cellar. I knew someone who bought a second-hand bike factory. Looked nice, but the chain kept coming off and the frame was crooked. Better to buy something more expensive that actually works, than to spend years tinkering.
