I think my hard contractions have started. I have a sort of discomfort every day, and sometimes it feels like my intestines are going crazy, so my belly feels hard too, especially at work and when I first get home. It gets better when I rest.

Next week I have a week off and I have an appointment for the 30-week ultrasound on Friday. I'll mention it then. If it goes away during my vacation and starts up again at work, I think it'll be time to take steps, like getting even more rest. But we'll see...

Yes, I'll let the OB-GYN know about this. What you're describing sounds a lot like Braxton Hicks contractions, but I have to admit I only really started experiencing them myself this week My whole belly gets incredibly tight (including the lower part), so I'd definitely recommend getting plenty of rest. Everything else seems to be going smoothly (or so I think)... although the contractions are increasing, and I'm also getting more and more of a menstrual-like feeling radiating to my back. I think these are false labor contractions, but I'm seeing the OB-GYN on Friday, so I'll know more then! I can say with a bit of pride that I've started having colostrum discharge

Nice that your milk production has kicked in Yeah, it could just be Braxton Hicks.
I really need to slow down. Last night I had discomfort in my lower back and lower belly, and again this morning. It’s an unpleasant feeling.. not painful.

Yesterday I didn’t have any tight contractions, but after work I went all out with cleaning at home because I felt so good. I really should rest more.. I think that’s what caused the symptoms last night and this morning.
  4. shannah #44

Yeah, we'll have to learn that. This week I handed over the cleaning to my husband for the first time. Last week I hadn't done that, and the next day I was seriously dealing with hard contractions... so no more! Taking it easy. Although that's a bit difficult

Everything's still going its own way here. This week I've got some nice time off, and my husband does too

We haven't planned much, still need to buy a few things.

I need to stretch my pelvic muscles again. They're still a bit tight. But that belly keeps getting in the way more and more.

We feel our baby regularly too, turning, pushing off, kicking, etc. – signs that everything's going well

How's it going over there with you?

Everything’s going fine with the pregnancy. Had an appointment on Friday and everything is still working as it should. The little guy is still head down and nothing suggests he’ll turn soon. He already weighs a full 3 kg! I was quite startled... but the OB says that’s fine and a sign he’s healthy.
The flip side of the coin is that my mom is deteriorating rapidly. Palliative care is now being started and the fear that she won’t make it through the birth is great. I’d asked about inducing early but the OB has nothing to do with that. So the relief will be extra big here when he finally turns!
Oh, fun vacation!! I could use that, sis. I’m DEAD. And I’m really starting to look forward more and more to maternity leave. I even thought about going early but then I think about those fewer weeks after the birth and then I think... keep going, Shannah!

Oh, that's intense. I hope your mom is allowed to be there.

I have the 30-week ultrasound on Friday. Then I'll hear how our man is doing.

I'm also sleeping well now and have perked up a lot. But then I have to work for another 5 weeks and indeed count down. But if I only have to work until January, that sounds really good and I definitely want to stick to that. We'll see.

    Strength to you both...
  8. shannah #48

Yeah, I hope so too. She seemed a bit better today, but I know it's just an illusion... We also talked about moving the baptism, but I fear I won't be able to arrange that... although I'd naturally love to have her there. I'll see, first the birth and then the rest...

Yeah, not working until January does sound amazing!! I had a rotten night last night so I'm hoping for a better one... and are you already far along with the preparations? Is the room ready?
  9. Linda24 started this #49

The room is ready. Just need to pick up a few small things. But it's coming together.
And you guys? Is everything ready for after the birth?

Strength to your mom... intense, huh.
  10. shannah #50

Thank you so much we have to get through it... so yes.

Everything is ready here. I just need to really get to work on the emergency bag. I've got it half ready, but I should really sort everything out. It's coming up really soon now!!

I'll be rooting for a smooth delivery for you. You can really count down the days!
  12. shannah #52

I've been counting down for ages! I started getting excited from around 30 weeks (which you've now nicely passed ) – it's all so thrilling!!
  13. Linda24 started this #53

Yes, that's right... I'm also dreaming more about when the little one is here, so I'm pretty busy with it. Tomorrow is the 30-week ultrasound. My husband and mom are coming along Excited to see if he has grown well.
  14. shannah #54

Have fun!!! Let me know how it went.

So we had the 30-week scan. The baby's upper legs were slightly below average, but the rest was average or above. Our son is very active and energetic. My bump is also bigger than average for the number of weeks pregnant, but I have quite a lot of amniotic fluid. Unfortunately, my hemoglobin is too low, 6.0. So I've already picked up iron tablets and need to get my blood drawn.

During the scan, I briefly passed out. Apparently, I can no longer lie on my back. But luckily, I was fine again quickly.

It was nice to see our baby again
  16. shannah #56

We don't get much info in Belgium. It's just like: "everything's fine," so as long as it stays that way, everything's okay I also have a lot of amniotic fluid, and you can indeed see that in the belly size. The OB-GYN has always been very happy with that because it apparently is good for the baby (better too much than too little).

However, we've received the bad news here that my mom's condition is critical. We're now talking about days and maybe, very possibly, weeks... The birth of our little man is becoming difficult. So I've also started my maternity leave early, and we're keeping a close watch. On Wednesday I have an appointment with the OB-GYN and will ask him to induce... hopefully he will... but there's a fairly real chance that mom will pass away before I give birth...

Oh, that's so sad! Wishing you all the best. Sending my best wishes to you all.
  18. shannah #58

Thank you so much! In the meantime, it’s actually a bit better. The antibiotics are working, and the doctors are amazed by her willpower. My hope that she’ll go into labor is a bit higher now. Although that means she’s feeling worse again, of course. By the way, I’m also having a super hard time with this! How do you keep going??
  19. Linda24 started this #59

Exciting, I hope she can experience it. Strength.

I'm back at work. I'm a bit less tired, fortunately. I still have to keep working for another 4.5 weeks. Whether I can manage that? I wouldn't dare say.

Last night I suddenly got cramps in my lower abdomen. I went to the midwife anyway; she said she expects labor pains. I did go to work this morning though. The cramps aren't as intense anymore but they're still there. I have the feeling the baby is in a different position. I can feel the feet lower down.
