Linda24
Hi everyone, I'm Linda, 28 years old and pregnant with our first baby, a boy. My due date is September 17, 2016.

So far, the pregnancy is going really well. I'm quite tired and have already noticed some first varicose veins ... but luckily I hardly have any other complaints.

I feel our son every day, and so does dad .

Exciting time... and time flies so fast.

I'm pregnant with my first baby too (also a boy) and my due date is 01/08/2016. I'm now quietly counting down the days... No major pregnancy ailments: just swollen feet from the hot weather and since this week, extremely tired again!

Spamming! I'm also already counting down. On one hand, I'm really looking forward to meeting our man. On the other hand, I'm dreading the birth and all the changes... but many women have gone before me, so it'll be fine.

You'll be on leave soon or about to start, I assume?
  3. shannah #4

Not at all, Linda In Belgium it's only until 1 week before the due date, so I have to keep going until July 25th! I could go earlier, but then I'd have to give up weeks after the birth, so I'd rather keep going! That birth... Yeah... Pff... I try to think about it as little as possible, to be honest, haha... He's in there, so he has to come out, of course. Have you made a lot of preparations?

Oh, that's nice indeed. We can work up to 4 weeks before the due date.
I'm still weighing whether I want to give birth at home or in the hospital. Since it's the first one, I have no idea what to expect. My husband prefers the hospital.

    Can you choose?
  5. shannah #6

We do have the choice here... but most people opt for the hospital. Giving birth at home isn't as common here in Belgium as it is in the Netherlands, I think. I'm choosing the hospital myself I think it's better because you can fully focus on yourself and the baby without all the extra "home drama." For example, we also have a dog and a cat If they decide to interfere with the birth, I'd have a real problem! Why would you choose a home birth?

When I think about the hospital, I picture a room like that where you're just waiting. At home, I think it's easier to find distractions. It's your own home and I feel more comfortable there.

We also have a dog and that's not easy. And in the hospital, everything is there if something goes wrong or if you need more help. From home, it becomes an emergency...

So I'm still figuring things out....
  7. shannah #8

I get it... And yeah, that room. I haven't really thought much about it yet, and I think at that point you're busy concentrating on the contractions, not on the room. I think giving birth at home is mainly more comfortable for hubby (especially with the Euro coming up ). Honestly, I'm not really thinking about the birth... In my head, it goes from pregnancy to baby... I forget the whole part in between, haha. Will you give the bottle or breastfeed?

I'm leaning towards bottle feeding, how about you? I'd really like my husband to have an active role in that too.

I'm not super stressed about it either, but my husband really wants me to have a clear choice. The midwives are already asking about it... so yeah, you're kind of forced to think about it
  9. shannah #10

Yes, that's definitely not the case here in Belgium. They just assume a hospital birth. If we want to give birth at home, we have to bring it up ourselves.

I hope I can breastfeed. Whether it works out is another matter... but then I can't blame myself for not trying.

    I can totally understand that.

You can really start counting down the days now I can imagine you're really looking forward to your little one

    Hi Marlies,

I can totally imagine you pumping then
I also decided to go to the hospital this weekend. Just because I have no idea what to expect. I find the tension even greater if I have to rush to the hospital head over heels.

Enjoy the pregnancy. For me too, time has flown by and September is getting closer and closer. December will be here really soon

Yes Linda, it's really starting to feel short here. Had an info session today about after the birth. Apparently 75% of women go overdue... I'm rolling my eyes! As long as it happens soon... I'm ready to hold him in my arms and I'll just be happy that he can meet his mama. And super that you were able to make a choice... constantly worrying isn't everything either!

December is coming up so fast Marlies... only those last weeks seem super long to me Personally I'm really pro breastfeeding. Tomorrow I have an info session at the midwives! I'm curious. I'll also have to start pumping soon because I'm back at work after 3 months. Keep in mind that they recommend not pumping in the first weeks, but breastfeeding directly? Your milk supply needs to get going and a pump doesn't really give that "mama feeling" which seems to help the supply kick in That's what I was told! Nowadays those breasts don't even have to be bare anymore... I'm currently using nursing breaks and those combined with a nursing bra mean only one nipple is showing

I'll be rooting for you that it doesn't take too long until the birth. I can imagine that the last few weeks weigh heavily.

I'm still working. Went to the physio today because I've been having lower back pain. Better too early than too late.

Strength for the coming weeks until August
  14. shannah #15

Yes Linda, I hope so too! Well, within reasonable limits of course ... a premature baby is not something I want at all! So from 37 weeks he can come And preferably a birth that doesn't last 3 days (apparently that's possible too! I couldn't believe my ears ...). And that lower back pain... that stays ... for me it's not too bad during the day, but when I lie down at night and then have to get up to pee (yep, nighttime peeing), it sometimes takes 5 minutes before I find a good way to get out of bed haha
  15. Linda24 started this #16

No, from 37 weeks please Yeah, I also have to get out every evening. Nowadays I roll onto my side, legs off the bed, and then use my arms to push myself up Getting up is starting to require some thought here haha.
I have tight muscles in my lower back. I don't really feel like it's pelvic instability. I don't have too much discomfort from it. But I'll go ahead and check just to be sure. If it is that, I can at least do something about it.
  16. shannah #17

Yeah, I really can say I'm lucky! All in all, I haven't had too much trouble with the pregnancy. I'm now counting down to next Friday. Then I have to go to the gynecologist. I can ask him right away if this itching is normal... Last time I explained that I had a fungal infection. Did the whole course of treatment.... got better for two weeks and then boom, back to having trouble! Only, I've never had itching "inside" before. It's on the inside of my thighs... I'm not so sure anymore if it's really a fungus actually.. :S
  17. Linda24 started this #18

Good that you're getting that checked. If you don't trust it, you can always call your GP or midwife. Itching for another 1.5 weeks doesn't sound pleasant.

Things are going well for me too. I went to the physio today because I was having trouble with my lower back/pelvis due to the stress. It didn't seem like true pelvic instability. I could balance well, etc., but had a sharp pain with certain movements. Got some tape and a follow-up next week. Might be that I'll only come back if I have pain again.
  18. shannah #19

Yeah... I'm getting a bit tired of it I definitely won't miss those discomforts once I've given birth! I am curious what it will be though... probably something you can't do anything about because it's related to the hormone balance. :S Hopefully you won't have too much trouble with it! But it's already a good sign that it's not pelvic instability. Right?

Haha, me neither. I have sore muscles, and I’ve been told to take it easy.
