Want to be pregnant

Hi, I'd really like to share my story and I think this is the best way to do it.
I really want to be pregnant and have a baby.. My boyfriend and I have been together for almost 10 months and we've known each other for 7 years. I'm 15 and he's 17, it's still very early to think about kids, but we really want it.. I'm on the pill and sometimes I forget a few doses, but I don't get pregnant because of that.. What should I do and what do you think? Thanks.. Greetings

Hi there, it's brave of you to share your story. I understand this isn't easy. Do you still live with your parents? I personally think you're a bit young for kids; it's a huge responsibility that also costs a lot of money. Do you both work, or are you still at school? Because that's really important. You want to give your child the best, so it seems wiser to wait a bit. 10 months together isn't that long, and even though you're head-over-heels in love now, things might change in a year. I'd just wait calmly for now, girl, and you'll surely be a great mom!

Hi there, we both work and we're still at school too... I still live with my parents and my boyfriend does too, we really want it. And then also to live on our own early on.

    Hi Kim,

Personally, I think you're still a bit young to start having kids right now. When I was 16, I also thought that sounded fun. Well, 3 boyfriends later and 13 years later, I got married and recently started seriously trying for a baby. I'm so glad I didn't do it back then!

First of all, I never would've been able to afford to live on my own or with a partner, and therefore provide the baby with clothes, food, and stuff. You're mature enough to make the choice, so you should also be mature enough to buy and pay for those things yourself, not your parents. Plus, at your age, you should enjoy going out partying and going on holiday with friends. I've been having a great time partying and traveling far away until recently, and no one's taking that away from me!

Good luck with your decision, and I hope you make the right choice.

    Love, Muis

I understand your longing for a baby, but 15 is really, really young. Enjoy your relationship, your job, and your studies. That's the foundation for a good career later on. Because living on your own and raising a child costs a lot of money and comes with a lot of responsibility.

Remember that you can have a baby when you're 19, 25, or 32—you still have plenty of time.

    Try becoming an adult first.
    Love,

    @Kim,

That's really brave of you to share your story. If you're ready for it, it might be okay, but 10 months...
That's still quite short... Have you discussed this with your parents yet? How do they feel about it?
And what about your partner's parents? Also, if you occasionally forget a pill, you won't get pregnant from that, but the chance of becoming irregular with your cycle does increase...
Maybe wait another year or two until you really live on your own, in supported housing, Kim.
But well, if you really want it, I hope you make a wise decision...

Wishing you lots of strength, girl, and I hope you'll become very happy.

    Love, Ju or rather mavanmi

I think it's so sweet that you're all supportive and don't have any preconceived notions. I know it's tough, and my parents and their parents don't think it's a good idea, but if we really want it, they'll be there to help too. I'll definitely think it over very carefully.

I've thought about that too—just stay at home, buy everything cheaply, and give lots of love, of course. Save any leftover money and move into our own place quickly, take a break from school for a while, and then continue later... It's super tough, but we really want to do it.

That's true, my parents can take us in and help out as grandparents. We have plenty of space, we live in a big house. I'll definitely think it over again, thanks so much!!

    Dear Kim,

Please think this over carefully, talk to your boyfriend and your parents.
If you're going to have a baby, you'd want to take care of it yourself, right? If you wait a while to finish your studies and build up your relationship, you could live together and have a baby in a few years and take care of it yourself. Instead of becoming a teenage mom now and later leaving the care of your child to your parents.

Hi, of course I'd like to take care of it myself, but that's also totally fine. When I live with my parents, I get more help than when I'm living with my boyfriend. I'm quite closed off to my parents because they tend to form opinions pretty quickly about how I think. If I tell them that I really want a baby, I think they'll find it very strange and keep a close eye on me... Love

    about living with your parents
I myself was still living at home with my partner when I had my little girl.
Back then, my boyfriend was really happy about it; my mom helped with everything and she also really enjoyed it, so she built a strong bond with her granddaughter.
It was super cozy, and on weekends I got to sleep in.
And so did my partner, while my mom took care of my little girl.
    That was an advantage
If you're sure you have help from your parents, that makes a big difference and it's a different story altogether.
By the way, when we were still living with my parents along with my daughter, my partner was already 29 years old
and both of us were working.
    I started working at 17.
So if you know you have help, living at home doesn't have to be a problem.
    Greetings, Madelene.

Hi Kim, it's brave of you to be so open here, and I can totally relate to your feelings. But don't underestimate the challenges—I was 18 and my husband 17 when we had our first. We had no financial stability, and it can put a lot of pressure on your relationship. Luckily, you have family support or they're close by. We had our second when I was 25 and we had a house and no money worries, which makes a big difference. I also wonder where your desire comes from? Personally, I'd say enjoy your youth—it sounds old-fashioned, but you won't get it back. Just spend time with your boyfriend, go on holidays, do fun things. I'm lucky my husband works and has a good job, and I've managed to catch up on some free time. But I found it really tough to have a baby so young. 18 is still quite young, and having a child at that age is hard. What does your boyfriend think, by the way?
