Maternity care at home or a home birth

Hi! I was wondering if you’ve ever considered giving birth in a maternity hotel. What did you decide? Why yes or no?

I’d love to hear from you!

With my first pregnancy, I really wanted to give birth at the maternity hotel, but I ended up being admitted to the hospital due to pregnancy-induced hypertension. I thought it was such a nice idea that you could stay there for the first few days, get well cared for, be close to the hospital, and your partner could also stay and sleep (which usually isn't possible in the hospital).

I’d really like to give birth in a maternity hotel. If something doesn’t go well, they have everything on hand there. And no mess at home; you come home after 1 or 2 days to a clean and tidy house.

A friend of mine wanted to give birth at a postnatal care hotel for her first baby. In the end, it turned out to be a medical delivery, and she gave birth at the general hospital (zh), but she did spend her postnatal week there. Nice atmosphere, very homely.
For the second one, she also gave birth at the zh and was going to spend her postnatal week at the postnatal care hotel again. However, with four of them in one room, plus the night feedings of the little one, and the oldest waking up because of it...
In the end, she decided to spend the rest of the week at home...

@Marieke... If you want to give birth at home, you won't have any mess either. The midwife and postnatal caregiver make sure you don't have to worry about that and tidy everything up neatly for you.

I had my first baby in a maternity hotel. Totally awesome, I tell you! It's close to the hospital but still very relaxed. I could bring anyone I wanted. So along came: my partner, my sister, my dad and mom, and the midwife hahaha, so it was quite the party :-) Everything was very tidy there and the staff was super! The next one will be born in a Belgian hospital; I'm a little bit nervous about that because I'm not really a fan of hospitals. Just the smell alone hahaha. But well, as long as the baby comes out healthy and safe, it doesn't really matter where, right? xx
