induce

Hi ladies,

I'm over 36 weeks and completely fed up. There's been a lot of fuss, lots of pain, and I'm sleeping terribly. Now I'm also starting to get more contractions because my little boy had a rough start. I have my 5th growth ultrasound in a week and a half.

I want to ask if I might be eligible for induction.

Does anyone know if this is a reasonable question or if it's pointless to ask here?

There are several reasons to opt for induction, and in some cases, that includes when the mother is under a lot of stress during pregnancy. But... induction is no joke either! It's often much more intense than a natural birth and comes with more risks too. I understand you're worried about the birth, especially since the first one wasn't exactly smooth sailing, but I think it's most important to talk to someone who can help ease your uncertainties or reassure you. Induction doesn't really seem like the solution to me... Good luck!

There are indeed various reasons to induce labor. It could also be the mental aspects or your past experiences with pregnancies/deliveries. Usually, they won't induce before the 38th week. Just be honest during your check-ups so you can discuss it openly. Be honest about your mental state. Your uncertainties, for example. Also consider for yourself why you'd want to be induced and weigh the disadvantages against the advantages. Everyone experiences induction differently. I didn't mind being induced at all and found the delivery went much better than with my first. I absolutely didn't find it heavier.
