HCG levels in the very early stages!
48 replies · page 1 of 3
It's a bit of a weird question and I know not everyone checks this.. but I was wondering what your initial HCG levels were around 4 to 5 weeks?
I had an HCG of 1416 at 4 weeks and 4 days.. I found this quite high and hope it's a good sign, because in previous pregnancies that ended badly, my HCG was really low from the start!!

These are really high hCG levels, I think personally. I didn't have these levels at all. Could it indicate twins? Have you looked it up online? -

Hi Littlestar,
Congratulations on your pregnancy!!!
I didn't get mine checked either, but I found this on Google. Maybe it's helpful...
Guide for hCG levels during pregnancy:
hCG value in weeks from conception*:
3 weeks after conception: 5 - 50 mIU/ml
4 weeks after conception: 5 - 426 mIU/ml
5 weeks after conception: 18 - 7,340 mIU/ml
6 weeks after conception: 1,080 - 56,500 mIU/ml
7 - 8 weeks after conception: 7,650 - 229,000 mIU/ml
9 - 12 weeks after conception: 25,700 - 288,000 mIU/ml
13 - 16 weeks after conception: 13,300 - 254,000 mIU/ml
17 - 24 weeks after conception: 4,060 - 165,400 mIU/ml
25 - 40 weeks after conception: 3,640 - 117,000 mIU/ml
Non-pregnant women: <5.0 mIU/ml
Women in menopause: <9.5 mIU/ml
* These values are purely intended as a guide - hCG levels vary from woman to woman and hCG levels rise at different rates. A low hCG value doesn't necessarily mean something is wrong. A second test can provide clarity.
What can a low hCG value mean?
A low hCG value can mean a lot. A retest 2 to 3 days later can show how the values change. A low hCG value can mean the following:
Incorrect calculation of pregnancy due to late ovulation or implantation
A miscarriage
An ectopic pregnancy.
What can a high hCG value mean?
A high hCG value can mean a lot. A retest 2 to 3 days later can show how the values change. A high hCG value can mean the following:
Incorrect calculation of pregnancy due to early ovulation or implantation
A molar pregnancy
A multiple pregnancy.

@Daisy: No, I haven't looked it up yet.. I do know it's a high value because with my other two pregnancies, at 5 weeks I was only at 307..
I know exactly when my ovulation was, so at 4 weeks and 4 days it was 1416.
I just took a look at that table under your reply (from trotsemama)
Now I'm a bit scared that it might be a molar pregnancy.. but that probably isn't the case, right? I actually have a pretty good feeling about it!
Tomorrow I'll have my second blood test, then I'll know if it rose nicely!
Twins would also be very welcome, but I'd have to get used to the idea a bit!
@trotsemama: thanks for the table!!! I hope it's just a healthy little baby, if it's twins then they're very welcome, it would just be a matter of getting used to the idea

Little star,
How did it go for you?
I’m 4 weeks pregnant tomorrow and had a blood test done yesterday.
I got the result today, 807, which I think is quite high..
So I’m curious about yours! -

Hi ladies, I’m finally pregnant after 3 years of trying, but I’m having a lot of trouble with my bowels and lower back pain. On Nov 9, my hCG was 115 and progesterone 12. I was prescribed Utrogestan 200 suppositories because I had a miscarriage in September without knowing I was pregnant. My hCG was 11 on day 8-9 and 0 on day 12. Now on Nov 15, I was able to see the gynecologist because I was unsure about my back pain. She only saw very thick endometrium back, took blood, and an hour later called me to say my hCG was 895 and progesterone 24. Tomorrow afternoon I’ll have another blood test. The gyn said not to worry yet because my hCG rose sufficiently (I’m assuming slow hCG rise on my own). She said I could come for an ultrasound on Wednesday. Hopefully, we’ll see our little one then. I’m quite scared. Hopefully, tomorrow there will be a good rise above 1000 hCG. Is this recognizable to anyone? To all the pregnant ladies, big congratulations

For me, my hCG levels were over 800 two weeks after conception (the day my period was due). The gynecologist already thought that was high at the time... it wasn't measured again after that. For the next blood test a week later, the gyn forgot to specify... but I already had an ultrasound at 5 and 6 weeks

Hi ladies,
I'd like to share my story with you and hope that some of you have experienced something similar. On June 26th, I had a blood test and my hCG level was 1166, which seemed good at the time, and I was estimated to be 5 weeks pregnant. However, the ultrasound showed very little. On July 17th, I had another blood test, and my hCG was 2394. Again, the ultrasound didn't show much. I was told that it was likely a miscarriage. I was advised to wait a week to see if it would pass on its own, or go back to the hospital for medication if it didn't. I didn't want to wait long and decided to go to the hospital after 2 days to have it removed. But then I had another ultrasound, and it had grown!!! The gynecologist found this doubtful and advised me to wait another week so that I could have another blood test and ultrasound. You can understand the uncertainty, sadness, and yet again, hope I feel now. Has anyone here experienced something similar? -

I'm also scared that my pregnancy will end in a miscarriage for the 2nd time...
Especially after seeing your values...
I had my first day of my last menstrual period on June 6th.. the gynecologist thinks I had a late ovulation.. so I have no idea how far along I would be but my values were 226 on Thursday.. blood test again on Monday.. she said it's possible to have a very early pregnancy.. but I'm so scared of bad news, what do you think? -

I can't predict how things will go for you, but my hCG level was 53 at first and after a week it was 450. I was worried at first, but it turned out to be unfounded because tomorrow I'll be 35 weeks pregnant with a perfectly healthy baby. A low level doesn't necessarily mean something's wrong. I was told that the actual level doesn't say much; the rise in the level is more telling, but even that doesn't tell the whole story. Some people just produce hCG more slowly than others. -

Thanks ezkimo, for your positive story. Soon you'll have your miracle in your arms, wishing you a good delivery. I'll keep you updated if I've been there tomorrow, Tuesday the result.. -

Good luck! I'm already crossing my fingers for a positive result! -

At my place, they always said it's not the HCG level that matters, but the doubling every 72 hours. Everything else doesn't matter.
Good luck to everyone! -

Hi ladies,
I just came to seek some support. I went to have my blood drawn this morning, and the results probably won’t come until tomorrow, but since this morning I’ve been getting light pink spotting every time I pee, and it’s been continuous.
It’s not a lot, just a bit of pink on the toilet paper. I don’t have any abdominal pain, but I’m afraid of the worst with the blood test. This is now the 3rd round in January, and I already went through one in March.
I’m so sad, why can’t I ever get it right? -

Dani90, that uncertainty is so incredibly draining, ugh. I don't want to give you false hope, but I still want to share a positive story with you. Fortunately, I don't have personal experience with miscarriages, but I do know what kind of impact this can have on a person; my sister fell into a deep depression because of it. I can only offer a listening ear and support you. That's why I'd like to share my experiences with you, hoping it helps you a bit.
I was 9 weeks along when I started bleeding. It started in the morning, and for me, it wasn't just a little spotting when I peed, but several panty liners soaked through. I didn't have any cramping. So, I immediately drove to the ER (on my GP's advice) to get checked out. According to my GP, things weren't looking good, and I should prepare for the worst. So, I had already gone through all the worst-case scenarios in my head, convinced that I was losing my baby.
When I got there, I was so nervous that I started throwing up; I had a fever, and my blood pressure was way too high. Plus, at that moment, I started having severe cramps. The ER doctor also started preparing me for bad news and mentioned that a psychologist was available if I wanted to talk to someone. It took an hour before a gynecologist was available to do the ultrasound. When she finally arrived, it felt like hours before she said anything, but then came the relief. "Look at that beautiful beating heart!" She told me not to worry too quickly. Many women lose blood in early pregnancy. Usually, the cause of the bleeding can't be pinpointed. She explained it was an implantation bleed. She said this can happen up to 12 weeks. As long as I don't lose more blood than during a period, usually, there's nothing to worry about.
If you need to vent, you can always come to this forum. There are many people who are happy to listen and support you. I'm still crossing my fingers for a good result tomorrow, and no matter how hard it is, try to stay calm and distract yourself a bit. -

Ezkimo, what a beautiful story.. It's indeed not good either, if it were to go well, there's no need to worry so much and get so worked up. Just calmly wait for the relieving answer from the gynecologist.
Thanks for your support!
