Original ways to announce a pregnancy!

Hi ladies,

I'm 5 weeks and 3 days pregnant with my first one today. So it's all very exciting! We have our first ultrasound in early June. After that, we want to tell the parents. In separate parts because my parents are divorced (dad is remarried) so we have to go to my mom, my dad+stepmom, and to my husband's mom.

We'd like to share the good news in an original and funny way. By the way, no one expects us to be pregnant.
I've already scoured the internet but I keep coming across the same things: photo frame, bib with text, cakes etc. I don't think that fits me and my husband. We want something playful... Do you have any nice ideas? And how did you tell them???

I'm really curious about this too! I haven't told everyone yet either.
We just told our parents.. and it's actually pretty boring!!
Recently, a girl in another forum said she did it with a little book and a note.
Pretty nice in itself, but I'm also curious about other ideas!!!

I heard from a friend that they received a card with a job posting for 'godmother'. So with a job description for godmother. I thought that was a really nice idea. You can of course adjust it to a job posting for grandparents.

Well, it's really hard to find something original!

Got the first ultrasound scan list in.

I actually bought socks for the parents, little brother, and even grandma, and they got the hint right away
But my parents and in-laws knew we were trying after 3 months, and it worked—that's pretty quick. I'm 36 weeks pregnant tomorrow.

With the first one, we definitely had a little photo frame with the first ultrasound and a card with a poem inside. It was such a tearjerker haha. And with the second one, we wore a t-shirt. I know someone who made pop cakes in blue/rose, and someone else did something with cupcakes. And another person hid a pacifier in a cake.

indeed, cute idea: shirt and then stamp with beschuit and muisjes

if you had a first child, you could have had the little one wear a little shirt saying "I'm becoming a big sister/brother"

I put my money on it: yes, I'm becoming a big sister.

Hi! Yeah, tricky, right? With our first pregnancy, we had a list with a little poem for one, where a photo could go later, and for the other, a "guest" suitcase with a poem attached. With the second pregnancy, we just told people because the first one hadn't gone well, and I had quite a bit of anxiety and could use all the support I could get. Have lots of fun, and I think the reaction, no matter how you tell them, is going to be crazy anyway. And congratulations on your pregnancy, of course!

Hi, we're also thinking about how we'll tell them.

Since we live abroad, it's not really nice to do it over the phone.
Now my boyfriend said, we can tell them over Skype, then we can see their faces too, for his parents because they're going to be grandparents for the first time.

My mom is already a grandma twice, but we want to do it via Skype for her too.

A card with the text on it, hello grandma and grandpa, are you coming to visit me or something.

I don't know the exact text yet.

But anyway, make something and show it to the camera.
    I'm already excited but we're waiting a bit longer, I'm 5 weeks.

    Anyone else have suggestions?

    Greetings

We're still very early in the pregnancy (5 weeks), but if everything goes well, we'll be back from our summer holiday by 12 weeks.
A nice idea would be to invite our parents to come see the holiday photos and then add the ultrasound photo as the last one.
That way, we'll know if they were paying attention during the holiday pictures ;-).

Hi Anna, that's a really nice idea! I hope it works out for you, haha. Wishing you a lovely holiday.

    Greetings,

Anyone else have a cute idea for telling your parents and in-laws?

I can't really think of anything haha.

We have to do it via Skype, so I was thinking of making a little painting and showing it to the camera or something.

Hope you all have some original ideas???
  12. RJ #13

Hi Marieke, via Skype does indeed seem a bit trickier to do in an original way. We revealed the gender with a photo. My husband painted a message/picture on my belly, and we sent a photo of that. Maybe it's an idea for you too to announce the pregnancy. Let dad write something on your belly with face paint, and then you can show your belly via Skype at some point. Or you could get a shirt printed, e.g., for dad with "I'm going to be a dad" – I think you can buy those too. Curious how quickly they'll figure it out Anyway, have fun, it's a wonderful moment!

Hi everyone, thanks for your lovely comments!
Unfortunately, I didn’t see the winning idea listed yet, but I really enjoyed reading all your experiences. It’s still so special!
@Marieke, today at the prenatal appointment, I saw a T-shirt with the text “I’m becoming a dad.” I don’t know where you live, but maybe it’d be funny to have your partner wear that shirt under a blouse or sweater, and then casually (but clearly visible!) pull off the sweater mid-conversation (pretending to be hot or something)...
Or, halfway through a Skype call, suddenly both start eating beschuit with muisjes and see how long it takes before they figure it out.
It’s tough coming up with an original way to tell them!
Let me know how you shared the news?!

With the first one, I had a heart-shaped balloon filled with confetti and a little poem (don’t ask me how it went!) that they had to pop.

With the second pregnancy, I was already showing at 8 weeks (I didn’t know yet that it was twins), and since both of my sisters-in-law had miscarriages, we didn’t make a big fuss about it. But the plan was to bring around tompousses (from Hema) printed with the first ultrasound photo!
  15. Roxane86 Guest #16

Oh yeah, you obviously can't easily go to Prenatal if you live abroad, I forgot that for a second!
But such a poem is super cute!
I'm curious to see the reactions..
I think I'll also do a poem, and then something like:

    Dear grandma and grandpa,
    I'm still very small
    You can't see me yet
But when I'm born in January
Can I maybe come stay with you?

And then I'll include a little luggage suitcase, or a pajama.
  16. Roxane86 Guest #17

    Hi Mandy,
That balloon is super too! Did you make it yourself or have it made? And did they get it right away when the balloon popped?
  17. Mandy #18

I made it myself, but maybe it's even more fun to have someone else make it! There was only one person (a guy, no less) who got it right away; the rest took a little longer :-)
  18. Marieke #19

@roxana: No, it's not really easy, haha, but luckily there are plenty of other ideas.
Your idea and poem are also really nice.

@mandy: Great idea, shame I can't do that, haha.

We're originally from Friesland, yes, and yesterday I made a little poem in Frisian with my boyfriend, painted it on canvas, and we're going to show it to the camera this Sunday because it's Mother's Day.

His parents are going to be grandparents for the first time, so it seemed like a really nice day.

It's just for the parents, no uncles and aunts yet – I think we'll leave that for when the proud grandma is there for the first time, haha.

Greetings, Marieke. I'll keep thinking about ways to tell, I think it's a really nice topic, haha.
  19. sanjo #20

Marieke, that's actually a nice idea.
So you're also from Fryslân. My parents are Frisian too. I was raised Dutch, since I was born in the polder and later lived in Drenthe because of my dad's job, but we moved to Friesland later on.

I'm curious how your parents reacted.
