The birth
My labor with Floor
Hi ladies,
As mentioned, here’s my story.
On Tuesday, December 11th, I was stripped in the afternoon and then went straight to the hospital for an examination due to high blood pressure combined with nausea, vomiting, headaches, and seeing light flashes. In the hospital, I was thoroughly examined, and there was no sign of any poisoning or anything like that, phew. They did mention that there were 4 traffic lights and that 3 were green and 1 was orange for me. For their reasons, this was enough to take me over (so I was medically admitted). After making a new appointment for Thursday, December 13th, I was allowed to go home. Once home, I got pain in my lower abdomen and couldn’t sleep all night because of the pain (probably contractions or false labor). We didn’t want to raise the alarm immediately, so we waited until the next morning (Wednesday, December 12th) to discuss this with the hospital. Early the next morning, we got up and had a nice breakfast. You never know what the day will bring. After breakfast, I could run straight to the toilet. Sure enough, everything came out again
I called the hospital right away and explained the situation. We could come in immediately...
Once at the hospital, I was put on the CTG right away and everything was examined again. Besides the high blood pressure, they couldn’t find anything else. They did say it was time to give nature a hand and switch to placing a balloon. This was placed immediately and was supposed to stay in for 24 hours before they would do anything else (unless nature did its job, of course). I wasn’t allowed to go home, but we had already accounted for that. The whole day I had pain, and in the evening, it only got worse. So I went through with the night nurse how I should get through the night. We started with pure nature. Unfortunately, I couldn’t fall asleep (1-0 for the pain). Another discussion between the doctors. Then the nursing staff came with a paracetamol suppository and a sleeping capsule to help me fall asleep. Unfortunately, without success (2-0 for the pain). Then I got another sleeping pill and an injection in my leg (Pethidine) for the pain. These didn’t really help either. By the time I finally caught some sleep, my waters broke (this was around 4 am). I immediately called home to let them know what was going on. After that, I could take a nice shower. When my waters broke, the pain started to increase further, and I really had to breathe, blow, and puff through it. The contractions were also immediately at full intensity. Well, this is not easy when you haven’t had any rest for so long.
After the shower, I was allowed to go to the delivery room. They immediately checked how far along I was, and I had 4 cm dilation by then. I couldn’t lie down anymore because of the pain, so I leaned against a cabinet to catch everything. Until the family arrived, people stayed with me the whole time and happily helped me breathe and puff.
By around 10 am, I was completely drained and couldn’t take it anymore. I couldn’t puff anymore and even felt the urge to push. At that point, pain relief was discussed. Something I actually didn’t want, and I had heard bad stories about the epidural, so I preferred not to have it. The other option was another Pethidine injection. Since I had already had one, I knew I wouldn’t make it with that, but well, I wasn’t keen on the epidural. Just at that moment, a new contraction hit me hard. At that point, I was advised to switch to the epidural, and I gave in. I could go straight to have it placed, and it turned out to be 100% manageable. It worked immediately, and it made such a big difference in the pain!!!
Back in the delivery room, they checked again, and very slowly, the dilation increased a bit, but not fast enough for the VK. The contractions I had were certainly intense, but well, they didn’t bring enough results. So, hop, oxytocin to speed up the process. And every time the pump was turned up, I reacted quickly, but you could also see it decrease again. Still, we tried turning the pump up again, and every hour the VK came to check the status. And sure enough, the pain became more intense, so the pain relief was also increased. This went on all afternoon. The VK came in cheerfully every time, and together we thought we had made progress every time, but every time it wasn’t quite enough. Until the dilation was 6-7 cm. Then it got exciting. What would my body do? We turned the pump up again with oxytocin, and it really looked like it was going to happen. We had agreed that this was the last thing we could try, and if there was no 8 cm dilation by 4 pm, we would discuss further with the Gynecologist. The VK came a bit later on purpose to give everything a fair chance. It looked really hopeful on the monitor. However, when she checked, I could see from her face that it wasn’t good enough. And sure enough, the dilation had even decreased back to 4 cm
We had to prepare for a C-section, but the gynecologist would also come by to give a final proposal. A little later, he asked if he could examine me, and unfortunately, he came to the same conclusion. There was no other option but to go for the C-section. Ok, switch the button and gaaaaaan. The VK asked me what I
